Retro Motel Tapestries
Description: Bunny's Motel first opened their doors in 1957 in Grants Pass, Oregon, serving the traveling public who were increasingly exploring the country in the decade following WWII's end. While information on who Bunny was is lost to the sands of time, her motel lives in, albeit as apartments today, though her iconic bunny sign still stands tall and may very well be the single most photographed objet d'art in Grants Pass.
Description: Originally built in 1936 at 251 Union Avenue (at the corner of Union and Terrace Way) in Bakersfield, California, the El Adobe Motel started as a restaurant and evolved into a popular night spot with a lounge, dining, dancing, and live entertainment. In 1941, the restaurant and lounge were remodeled, and an extensive addition was mounted to add lodging and new amenities, including a swimming pool. The revamped property was reopened as the El Adobe Motel, and spent the next four decades as one of Bakersfield's better places to find accommodations.

Description: Cocoa Beach was much, much edgier and zoomier in the late 50’s and throughout the 1960’s. Sure, there were hotels, restaurants, beaches, and bars (they called them lounges) back then just like now. But what they had 55 years ago was the raw excitement of the space program, engineers and space workers working crazy hours, and of course, the original seven astronauts roaring through Cocoa Beach in their Jim Rathman supplied Corvettes.
Description: Motel America is a chain of motels, restaurants, and travel centers throughout the United States in the American Gods series. Mr. Joshi, the founder of Motel America Restaurant and Travel Centers, Ltd., arrived in California in 1947 and purchased a small converted motel just outside of Fresno. His wife, a brother-in-law, and three cousins joined him to grow Motel America through franchises across the United States.
