Sandstone Bridge Across The River Eden, Cumbria, UK As we were staying in Lazonby, this river was just down the hill from our cottage. The river was known to the Romans as the Itouna, as recorded by the Greek geographer Claudius Ptolemaeus (Ptolemy) in the 2nd century AD. The River Thames as it flows through the market town of Abingdon in Oxfordshire, produced here as a digital painting, This is the scene looking upstream towards the road bridge to Dorchester-on-Thames on the way to Oxford. Behind us the river flows on to Reading and evntually London and the sea.

The first stone bridge over the River Tweed at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland (the northernmost town in England) was built in 1634. It is still there but is too narrow for modern traffic flows. The next bridge to be built was the Royal Border Bridge built in 1847-50 (a rail bridge) and finally, the bridge shown here, the second road bridge to be built over the River Tweed in 1928. The 316 foot high Clock Tower is the world's largest four-faced, chiming clock. The structure completed between 1858-59 is situated at the north-eastern end of the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London. It is often colloquially referred to as Big Ben, which is actually the nickname of the main bell housed within the tower (formally known as the Great Bell). The bell weighing over 13 tons, was cast in 1858 at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in East London. To this day one of the largest bells they have ever cast. The Whitechapel Bell Foundry also cast the Liberty Bell, along with hand bells, tower bells, clock bells, carillons, and turret bells for all over the world. The sheep pen is located next to the River Coquet which runs through the Coquet Valley of Northumberland, close to the Scottish Borders. The sheep pens are located on the valley floor. The sheep are moved from the surrounding hills during what can be very severe winters.

Initially I was drawn to this capture due to the wonderfully bright lush green colour of the sycamore tree delicately illuminated from above by the sun and I positioned the camera so that the slight arch of the tree followed that of the large stone outcrop covered with a good covering of moss... the rest, for me was - just a bonus! The larger tree - to the left, adorned with lush green ivy and even holly beneath and the delicate fronds of fern - just added to the setting... I decided on a long exposure - to pick up the detail in the water and add a dimension of flow to the capture...
