I reproduced a 4th century BC red figure Greek vase showing a Scythian archer. Archery was a central aspect of Scythian warfare and culture. Scythian boys were trained in archery, horse riding, and other martial skills from a young age.

For the "Civilized" Greeks, any people living on horseback North of the Balkans were barbarians. That included Scythians and Thracians who nevertheless left us gorgeous jewelry.
