Small Copper Tapestries

'The Small Copper is a fast flying butterfly that, once settled, is unmistakable with its bright copper-coloured forewings. It is a widespread species and a familiar and welcome sight for many naturalists throughout the summer months. This butterfly occurs in discrete colonies throughout the British Isles, but is absent from mountainous areas and far north-west Scotland, the Outer Hebrides and Shetland. It seems that its not as yet blindingly obvious to Governments that when you destroy habitats which in themselves are created in order to support the creatures which have learnt and evolved to survive on them... that you indeed destroy the very fabric and the lineage which it created. Putting it in layman terms - 'Where there's muck there's brass and where there's copper as in this 'small copper' fortune... then there's grass! If we apply 'basic thinking' and in most instances this is needed ~ then leaving grasses to thrive right through till late autumn ~ allows beautiful butterflies like these to do what they best do, and that is helping flowers to pollinate. When you destroy grassy areas the areas become like 'arid deserts'...

Just liked the sound of the title and the infusion of orangey marmalade and yellow colours here... It's reminiscent of Sunflowers ~ by Vincent Van Gogh to me or one of his other flower paintings... I believe he's done many! I think this is a small copper butterfly, but I couldn't be sure at present. I have asked for a second opinion from the butterfly conservation society. Taken with Pentax K3
