She is the Celtic goddess of birth and death, and as such is the perfect embodiment of what this card symbolises. Also known as the Phantom Queen, The Morrigan is more well-known for her relationship with death and the battlefield. Her association with battle implies that she is an indiscriminate bringer of death. The inevitable cycle of life and death cannot be controlled or evaded. Her presence in this card serves as a reminder of that all important truth. -- She is dressed in black as a metaphor for mourning. Around her neck is a necklace depicting a white flower...
Description: The Morrigan is a war goddess from Irish mythology often associated with ravens or the battle crow. She is portrayed as an ominous figure. My interpretation gives her a fearsome appearance with a raven skull headdress, and long bird-like talons for fingers. Her sword is covered with vines and claws to show the connection with nature.
Description: Badb, Macha, Morrigan, or collectively known as The Crow Goddess are three minds that inhabit one body. The Morrigan was worshiped and feared throughout the Celtic kingdoms as the Goddess of Death and Destruction. Once there had been three sisters: Macha, the Badb, and the Morrigan, but the others had disappeared over the years and the Morrigan reigned supreme.
