Hoover Performance Tapestry

Tom Hoover, whose work at Chrysler included development of the legendary Max Wedge and 426 Hemi V-8 engines, the 1970 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda, and the 1978 Dodge Li’l Red Express truck, is best known as the “Father of the Hemi.” Hoover trained as a physicist at Juniata College in his hometown of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He received his master’s degree from Penn State and later earned a master’s degree in automotive engineering from the University of Michigan while working for Chrysler. Tom led the team that designed the mighty 426 Hemi that was so powerful and so successful, that it lead to NASCAR changing their rules to attempt to eliminate it from competition.
