The original image is a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It was published sometime between 1829 and 1833. Today its image and its style crops up all over the art world. Given that the sea is featured so prominently in this image I wanted to show how much an image like this is suffering under the pressure of the modern world and if the scene took place today it could well be swimming in plastic pollution. I’ve created this design to raise awareness and contribute to fighting the causes and supporting the solutions to the horrendous problem of plastic pollution
