Description: Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, who uses the stage name Sting, is an English musician, actor, and activist. From 1977 to 1986, he was the bassist, frontman, and primary songwriter for the rock band The Police. In 1985, he went solo, incorporating elements of jazz, reggae, classical, rock, new-age, and worldbeat into his music. Sting is also a humanitarian and activist who has been involved with Amnesty International since 1981.

The Sting played in the North American Soccer League from 1975 to 1984 and in the Major Indoor Soccer League in the 1982–83 season and again from 1984 to 1988. They were North American Soccer League champions in 1981 and 1984, one of only two NASL teams (the New York Cosmos) to win the championship twice.
