This is the first in a series of Australian Native animal designs that were created from two photos taken by Karen McFarland. The iconic flightless native bird, the emu, National Emblem of Australia, is the first image which was first vectorised then placed onto the design with a sepia toned gradient. The second image is that of another icon of the Aussie bush, the windmill, which was also vectorised then placed in the design with the same sepia gradient as the emu. The stunning sunset effect of the golden hour was created using the colors red, orange, yellow, brown and black in a gradient background layer.

There is a lot of bird life here at Magpie Springs - every so often one flies into the Art Gallery and Cellar Door. Magpie Springs property is a vineyard / the artist’s home. 80 acres of rolling hills in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region in the centre of the Fleurieu Peninsula - South Australia - South of Adelaide. Magpie Springs is a 12 min drive from McLaren Vale. Half way between Adelaide and Victor Harbor. All works in the Magpie Springs portfolios are taken onsite at Magpie Springs, the images are a documentary of life on this unusual farm property by Avril Thomas. It is rustic and natural - an unusual place we are restoring it. It is a work in progress. Nature abounds. We make wine from our grapes and sell fruit to other winemakers...

There is a small conservation area in the Mullum Mullum Creek Reserve, which has a sign saying it's to protect the Rough Bush Pea (Pultenaea Scabra). I only found 2 specimens in this area - but lots of them across the path - outside the reserve!

Burning Bush

Sticky Daisy Bush - Olearia Elliptica - is a medium size bush around 1.5 to 2 meters tall and across, with lots of terminal bunches of yellow and white flowers. They are a glorious Spring sight at Blackburn Lake Reserve, Victoria, Australia.

I found this Honeysuckle (Lonicera Japonica) growing wild in Shepherds Bush - a part of Jells Park in Glen Waverley, Victoria, Australia. It's an introduced weed here, probably a garden escape, but the scent was glorious!

This is a ripe Kangaroo Apple - Solanum spp. These are very common in Southern Australia, with gorgeous purple flowers, followed by yellow fruits, which turn red when ripe. I'm told the ripe berries are edible, but since they are related to Deadly Nightshade I'm not game to risk it!

This is Burgan, a Summer flowering shrub from the woodlands of Southern Australia. It's long stamens are quite striking. I found this glorious example in the Baluk Willam Reserve in Belgrave South, Victoria, Australia.

The Bush Stone Curlews at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia, have been very busy. Dad was rushing around trying to feed this fluffy chick - while Mum was sitting on another egg!

This is one of Australia's favourite flowers - native to Western Australia - they can be seen in gardens, parks and nature strips all over Australia. Its popular name is Bottlebrush - for obvious reasons - proper name is Callistemon.
