Australian King Parrot Pillows

This fellow was breakfasting in my Flowering Plum tree the other morning.

The King Parrots were introduced to the Land Of Parrots at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia, just a few weeks ago. It took them a little while to get used to being watched by lots of humans, but now they're starting to come down to be fed. Yes - they really are that bright red!

The vibrant red chest of the male King Parrot is hard to miss and a beautiful sight to enjoy.

The Australian king parrot (Alisterus scapularis) is endemic to eastern Australia ranging from Cooktown in Queensland to Port Campbell in Victoria. Found in humid and heavily forested upland regions of the eastern portion of the continent, including eucalyptus wooded areas in and directly adjacent to subtropical and temperate rainforest. They feed on fruits and seeds gathered from trees or on the ground.

Male and Female King Parrot. As with all birds, the male always has more colour than the famale.
