This image shows some of the intricate and detailed work on many of the exterior walls of Old City Hall in Toronto. A bit about the architect and the designer (E.J. Lennex of Toronto) has been written in some of my previous images of City Hall. Although Lennox said little about the above designs, it has been said that the carved stone faces at the top of several of the columns resemble those of the politicians who criticised his work at the time. One theory suggests that the politicians are trapped in the fires of hell, as depicted in “Dante’s Inferno,” with the leaves around the faces representing the flames. Hope you like this one. The Kraft Music Hall was a popular old-time radio variety program, featuring top show business personalities and entertainers, that ran nationally from 1933 to 1949. After almost a ten-year hiatus, the show came back as a television variety show, which ran from 1958 until 1971.

It opened in 1974 and closed less than two years later, after “repeated and flagrant violations of state regulations” 32 Fremont is the corner of 1st St. & Fremont St. and has changed many times over the years. For a time it was the Silver Palace, Sunset West, Sassy Sallys and now is part of Circa.
