The church of St Mary sits squarely in the centre of the village of Kingclere in north Hampshire. It dates from about 1120-40 - its Norman origins being clearly seen in its square tower, cruciform plan and small round-headed windows. The Church was, however, extensively rebuilt in the C19th - apparently to recreate it as it was in the C12th. The village can trace its history to King Alfred's time as it was mentioned in his will.

The old City Bridge spanning the River Itchen in the heart of Winchester, Hampshire. The bridge, also known as St Swithun's Bridge was built in 1813, replacing older ones and is now a Grade 1 listed structure. It spans the clear flowing waters of the River Itchen, one of Britain's notable chalk streams. Behind the bridge is the old City Mill, the present building dating from 1744, replacing older mills on the site. Working commercially until ihe early 1900s, it is now fully restored. This lovely town and harbour lie at the sheltered northern end of Chichester Harbour - a large inlet between Portsmouth and Chichester. A century ago it was well known for its oysters which were served at top restaurants but this industry went ito decline. It was also famous for ship and boat building and also rope making. The harbour is now largely used for sailing and is a pleasant place to sit, drink coffee and relax. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

Standing under the trees and looking over the streams and sluices in the water meadows at St Cross near Winchester, Hampshire. Across the lush green grass lies the Hospital of St Cross, its almshouses providing accommodation fror 25 elderly men. Rising above is the magnificent Norman tower of the church, echoing that of Winchester Cathedral a short distance away.

By the Priory Gate to Winchester Cathedral sits this beautiful Medieval group of buildings. On the left is Cheyney Court which dates from the C15th and was once the bishop's court house. It has a mellowed stone ground floor and fine half timbering above with diamond-paned windows. The building next to it was the Cathedral's stable block. Winchester is an ancient city with many similar buildings - and was the capital of Wessex - and England. A digital drawing from my original photograph.
