Originally the known as the Boston Bulldogs, the World Football League team eventually became the New York Stars, playing part of the 1974 season in New York. That was short lived and the team moved back to Charlotte that same season to become the Charlotte Stars and eventually the Charlotte Hornets.

One thing New York City has never been short on is NYC t-shirts for tourists and locals alike to snap up from street vendors and shops all over the city. After Lennon moved to New York City in 1971, he too grabbed his share of designs including this one most famously seen during a 1974 photoshoot, just six years before he was tragically murdered upon returning home to his New York apartment.

The godfather part II

The New York Apples were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT). The team was originally known as the New York Sets to match the names of other successful New York sports teams including the New York Mets, the New York Jets, and the New York Nets. They won the 1976 WTT championship under that name led by Billie Jean King. Prior to the 1977 season, the defending champion Sets held a contest to choose a new name for the team, and Apples was selected. With their new name, the Apples produced the same results winning their second consecutive WTT title in 1977. On October 27, 1978, the Apples folded after their fifth season. WTT suspended operations of the league shortly thereafter.
