Harry Sinclair had his eye on a rival, Prairie Oil and Gas – a Rockefeller interest as big as Sinclair Consolidated. Sinclair held a half interest in the Ajax pipeline, which was jeopardizing the entire Prairie system by siphoning off most of their pipeline traffic. But in 1930, Sinclair sold its half to Standard Oil Company, along with its 50 percent interest in the Sinclair Crude Oil Purchasing Company, for $72.5 million cash.

Despite technological improvements in the application of alternative energy resources, fossil fuels will remain a vital necessity into the foreseeable future.

Trans-Alaska oil pipeline. This pipeline transports crude oil across Alaska. It transports oil from oilfields such as Prudhoe Bay Oil Field in the north, to the port at Valdez in the south, where the oil is shipped to refineries in the continental United States. Founded in Houston, Texas in 1947, Hill and Hill Truck Lines was a specialty carrier serving oil fields throughout the Lone Star State, hauling everything from pipeline materials to drill rigging and cargo needed in the field. They went beyond Texas in the early '70s, leveraging their operating authority to go to work on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System run from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, Alaska. Before they could actually get to work on the pipeline itself, they worked on the North Slope Haul Road, later known as the Dalton Highway, which was the main supply and service route along the bulk of the pipeline run.

This thrifted gem came to us from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and appears to be a crew shirt from an underwater pipeline operation, specifically on Barge 207. A little research revealed that Barge 207 was designed and built in 1958 as one of the first dedicated lay barge underwater pipeline platforms, and is apparently still owned and operated by the Brown & Root company. So whether you’re in the underwater pipeline field or just want to impress women by telling them that you are, Barge 207 is the one for you!
