Oriental poppies are so wonderful to paint, they're a gift to watercolourists like me! This large painting was started on saturated paper, allowing the pigments to merge freely until the paper was almost dry, and then final details added. The original work measures 22" x 15" and is painted on 300gsm Fabriano Artistico extra white paper.

I'm in poppy mode! My garden has treated me to waves of gorgeous red poppies over the last few weeks, it would be rude not to paint them! With all the parties going on in the UK this weekend for the Diamond Jubilee I was inspired to name it Fiesta. Watercolours on Fabriano Artistico extra white HP paper.
