St Edmund Pillows

Edmund was king of East Anglia during the 9th century, and put to death by the Vikings. His head was returned to his body by a faithful wolf, who protected his body until it could be buried. I took this picture of his statue outside the Cathedral at Bury St Edmunds. Saint Edmund is now the patron saint of wolves, pandemics, and victims of torture.

A landmark in Newtown, St Stephen's Anglican Church is considered to be one of the most beautiful Gothic Revival churches in Australia. Designed by Edmund Blackett and completed in 1874, it continues to be in active religious use. Surrounding the church is what remains of the Camperdown cemetery which includes many historic headstones, many of which are lined against the enclosing stone walls.
