Cleopatra was the last Pharaoh of Egypt before loosing at the Battle of Actium to Augustus. Cleopatra was of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, meaning that her family were Macedonian/Greek. I have chosen to portray her based on the theory that she had red hair and was shown on a wall in a house of Pompeii as Venus Genetrix. Just one representation of Cleopatra.

I really enjoy reading about Wu Zetian (particularly fond of her entry in 'Rejected Princesses') and I was nervous when I was approaching drawing her. Every other time I have drawn her, it is based off the costume in the TV Series "Empress of China". This time I wanted to try something that was my own, so I drew this while watching a documentary on Youtube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq-vW7…). I went with Yellow because it correlates with royalty and the rest is a bit of a mish-mash between images I found on Google and insp. from the Empress of China series.

Born highly connected into the Royal Family of the (Fairly new) 18th Dynasty, Hatshepsut boasted many powerful titles; - Daughter of the King (Thutmose I) - Great Wife of the King (Thutmose II) - Gods Wife of Amun (This made her, essentially, one of the most powerful religious figures in the country) But the death of her husband (and half brother) Thutmose II, left a massive power vacuum in Egypt as the throne passed to his very young son Thutmose III.
