Unicursal Hexagram Merch
Description: Thelema is a social or spiritual philosophy derived from Western esotericism. Thelema was developed in the early 1900s by Aleister Crowley, an English writer, mystic, and ceremonial magician. He believed himself to be the prophet of a new age, the Æon of Horus. The central philosophy of Thelema is in two phrases from Liber AL: “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law” and “Love is the law, love under will.”
Description: The unicursal hexagram is a six-pointed star which can be drawn in one continuous movement. The points aren’t equidistant, and the lines aren’t the same length (unlike a regular hexagram). You can, however, fit this hexagram inside a circle with all six points touching the circle. The origin of this particular hexagram is the group called Golden Dawn, an esoteric order in Great Britain. An adaptation created by Aleister Crowley is used as a religious symbol by Thelemites. The unicursal hexagram represents macrocosmic forces (sun, moon, and planets), a union of two opposites, and the union of two halves. That it can be drawing in one motion is important in ritual magic.
Description: A symbol is a word or an image when it represents something more than its immediate and obvious meaning. In the latter case, it is only a sign. The human uses the spoken or written word to express the meaning of what he/she wishes to convey. His/her language is full of symbols but he also frequently uses signs or images that are not strictly descriptive.
Description: The unicursal hexagram is so-called because it can be drawn unicursally- that is, in one continuous movement. This is significant when forming figures in ritual magick, where a continuous line is preferred to an interrupted movement. It is classified as the third form of the hexangle and is called the "pseudo-hexagram" or "irregular third form." Its description is: "Denotes the presidency of the Sun and Moon over the Four Elements, united in, and proceeding from, the Spirit."
