Description: The lives of orangutans are threatened by human greed as excavators destroy the forest. An orangutan is depicted sitting calmly, holding an elephant tusk—itself a victim of human cruelty—while turning its face away from the excavator poised to demolish its home. This work draws inspiration from Michelangelo’s "The Creation of Adam" while simultaneously serving as its antithesis.
Description: Negara Hadir literally means The State is Present. It is a term frequently used by the government to justify its role vis-à-vis the public. In reality, however, the situation falls short of the ideal image—and the actual impact experienced by the people—that is often envisioned. At the very least, the State ought to serve and protect its citizens, fostering a populace that is educated, prosperous, safe, secure, and proud of their country.
Description: Pajak means tax in Indonesia. By flipping the letter J, it transforms into *PALAK* - a term that essentially means forcing someone to hand over money. In this case, the government compels the public to give them money. Sadly, the people have no power to refuse. Everything is taxed, yet the return to the public is absolutely nil. Taxes merely fund the lavish lifestyles of governments.
