Description: The splendid poison frog (Oophaga speciosa) also known as the splendid poison-arrow frog, is an extinct frog species that lived in the Cordillera de Talamanca mountain range in western Panama. Once abundant, they fell victim to the pet trade, logging, and chytrid fungus (Chytridiomycosis). This species was last seen in 1992, with no new sightings the it was declared extinct by IUCN Red List in 2020.
Description: The Lewis' stubfoot toad (Atelopus chiriquiensis), also known as the chiriqui harlequin frog, is an extinct toad species that lived in the mountain rainforests of Costa Rica and western Panama. It was last seen in 1996, with no recent sightings it was officially declared extinct by the IUCN Red List in 2020. Chytrid fungus (chytridiomycosis) is believed to be the cause of its extinction.
