Batman Forever showed a newscast on "GNN" (that presumably stood for Gotham News Network). The logo was very similar to the "CNN" logo. GNN also appeared in Christopher Nolan's Films. The Dark Knight had its own version of CNN called "GCN". In the The Dark Knight DVD, episodes of Gotham Tonight of the GCN Network were found and explained events before the film.

Batman follows a strange trail of heists pulled at various GothCorp offices, all by the same man: Mr. Freeze, a strange figure clad in a powerful suit and armed with what seems to be a "freezing gun", a weapon that fires a beam capable of freezing anything into a thick sheet of solid ice. Batman pieces together the stolen items and discovers what the mysterious man is building: a massive cannon capable of casting a magnified ice beam, and that it is complete save for a single vital piece of equipment from GothCorp. Acting rapidly, he arrives at the GothCorp offices to witness the theft led by Mr. Freeze, only to be partially frozen under a sheet of ice after fighting with the thieves; as the perpetrators of the theft escape, they leave behind one of their own, his legs accidentally frozen by the mastermind behind the thefts. Batman chooses to help the man rather than chase Freeze.

Batman became weaker and weaker as each criminal was put away. The combination of the Joker and Scarecrow took Batman to his mental and physical limits. After this encounter, Bane made his move and attacked Batman (by this time, Bane had deduced the identity of Batman to be Bruce Wayne) at Wayne Manor, where he was most vulnerable as his alter-ego. The fight between Bruce Wayne and Bane ended in Bane breaking Wayne's back over his knee. With Batman supposedly out of the way, Bane assumes control of Gotham City and begins to take over a number of illegal operations within it.

Dr. Jonathan Crane, also known as The Scarecrow, is a DC Comics supervillain and an enemy of Batman. Created by Batman creators Bill Finger and Bob Kane, he first appeared in World's Finest Comics #3 (Fall 1941). His scarecrow costume, lanky appearance and surname were inspired by Ichabod Crane of the horror fable "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". The Scarecrow is an overly-obessive and deranged ex-professor of psychology who uses a variety of drugs and psychological tactics to use the fears and phobias of his adversaries. He does not commit his crimes for wealth, but rather as a form of "research" to further study the effects of fear on humans (later, he does it to satisfy his own psychopathic desires), making the innocent citizens of Gotham his unwilling guinea pigs.

The Joker shoots Barbara Gordon in the stomach, paralyzing her, and kidnaps her father, Commissioner James Gordon. The Joker imprisons Gordon in a run-down amusement park. His henchmen then beat Gordon and cage him in the park's freak show. It is implied but not explicitly said that the Joker gives Gordon LSD to continue his mental torture. The Joker chains Gordon to one of the park's rides and forces him to view giant photos of Barbara, lying down naked, bloodied, and in pain. Once Gordon has run the horrifying gauntlet, the Joker puts him on display in the freak show, ridiculing him as "the average man," a naïve weakling doomed to insanity.

Because their pups are too young to fly and catch their food, Mother bats care for their pups during the first month. As the warm days of spring led to summer, a baby bat was born. One day the baby bat found a lonely swing in the middle of the forest. He was so curious; he thought to himself what is this remarkable contraption? He then decided to jump on the swing and give it a go. It was the most bliss he had ever felt. And just like that BatYard was born.
