Description: This was a painting I did in sketchbook #3 of a grass airplane runway for smaller planes. Around the runway was lots of tall grass. However, the runway itself was painted in the colors and shapes of dandelions. Their color was amplified by the overcast day and the heavy scent of rain.

Description: Here is a tricolor bumble I saw during a week long field trip to the Adirondack mountains with my aquatic entomology class. We had just arrived at our first field site. It was an ordinary creek surrounded by Maples and Oaks. On the edge of the habitat I saw a bumblebee with an orange middle patch. A native bumblebee! Living in the lower region of the state I had never seen this bee before. It was really exciting! I've included some of my specimens and the respective habitat they were found in. Hand drawn in the car while we were on our way to the next site!
Description: Ruby-crowned Kinglets are olive-green birds with a prominent white eyering and white wingbar. This wingbar contrasts with an adjacent blackish bar in the wing. This illustration was made with alcohol ink markers and colored pencil. It was made after watching someone bird band a Ruby Crowned Kinglet.

This painting was a still life based on a duck planter that I have. Collecting white duck planters have become a bit of an obsession lately! Stay tuned for more paintings of white ducks. I love how I made a glass planter look so alive in the painting!
Description: Vernal pools are temporary, seasonal wetlands that fill with rain and snowmelt in winter/spring and usually dry out by summer. They are defined by an absence of fish, lack of a permanent inlet/outlet, and the presence of specialized, often endangered, wildlife like fairy shrimp and salamanders. This here is the spotted salamander who is enjoying a little drink in his vernal kiddie pool. Hand drawn with colored pencils
