Description: The West Midlands Metro, formerly just the Midland Metro, is a tram line running between Birmingham (England's second most populous city) and the nearby town of Wolverhampton. Opened in 1999, these CAF Urbos 3 trams began running on the system in 2014, and started receiving a striking blue colour scheme in 2018. The system currently has a number of expansions underway.

Description: Budapest boasts a sprawling tram network served by a series of bright yellow trams. This design is based on the most recent Urbos vehicles.

Description: The modern light rail system in Firenze, Italy began operation in 2010 and now comprises two lines.

Description: The modern tramway in France's beautiful second city, Lyon, has some of the most distinctive-looking tram vehicles in the world. Apparently, the hooded design was inspired by silkworms.

Description: On top of its metro system, Brussels boasts a large and efficient tram network. This design is based on the newer Bombarider T3000 tram model, introduced to the streets of the Belgian capital from 2005 onwards.

Description: The Barcelona Metro system, first opened underground in the 1920s, now consists of a sprawling network of lines criss-crossing the great city and providing transit to more than 400 million passengers every year, making it the second busiest metro system in Spain behind Madrid. This design is inspired by the 9000 Series train manufactured by Alstom, which run on lines 2, 4, 9 and 10.

Description: Opened in 2004, Nottingham Express Transit provides light rail transit connections to the historic city of Nottingham and surrounds. These Alstom Citadis trams arrived on the network in 2014, to serve an extension which more than doubled the system's length. Nowadays the trams carry almost 18 million passengers a year.

Description: This design is based on the Düwag GT6 tramcars which were transferred from the tram network of Basel to Belgrade beginning in 2001.

Description: A tangle of intertwined colourful lines, inspired directly by the Moscow Metro map as it appeared when I lived in the city in 2017.

Description: Once the scourge of Princes St and the new Shame of Edinburgh, these modern CAF trams have now become an icon of Scotland's glorious capital. Edinburgh's tram line is the most recent light rail system to open in the UK, carrying passengers from 2014.
