June 17 Simpson became the object of a low-speed pursuit by police while riding as a passenger in the white 1993 Ford Bronco SUV owned and driven by his longtime friend Al Cowlings. TV stations interrupted coverage of the 1994 NBA Finals to broadcast the incident live. With an estimated audience of 95 million people, the event was described as "the most famous ride on American shores since Paul Revere's".

Following the discontinuation of the Demon, the Redeye was created to fill the void. Essentially a heavily upgraded Hellcat, the Redeye is equipped with a slightly less powerful (due to a smaller hood intake system) Demon engine: a supercharged 6.2L V8 producing 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 90 hp (67 kW) and 11 lb⋅ft (15 N⋅m) over the standard Hellcat motor.
