Description: The Symbol of Chaos comprises eight arrows in a radial pattern. The symbol has been adopted in role-playing games such as Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons, as well as modern occult traditions, where it represents chaos magic, and also as a part of punk rock subculture and branches of modern anarchism.
Description: This print is taken from a 17th century wood carving from the artist Hans Holbein the Younger's "Dance of Death" series. The print serves as a "Memento Mori," meaning "Remember Death" in Latin, and is meant to depict that death spares no one. Memento mori is the medieval theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. In this print, titled "The Astrologer," an astrologer is seen in his study, looking attentively at a suspended astrolabe. Death holds out a skull to him, and seems, in mockery, to say, "Here is a better subject for your contemplation."
