This was a winning entry in a contest to create a fake diatom. The contest winner was Joseph_radiojoe!

I collected the sample that contained this diatom while standing in a river in northeastern Ohio, during my nephew's wedding. Samples were processed and imaged in my lab, and the SEM image was colorized using a combination of Photoshop and Lightroom.
