Description: Another cool fungi from my adventures this summer. This lil guy was found on a very cool mixed forest trail in central Alberta. There were SO many mushrooms!

Description: After a very rainy summer in Calgary, Alberta, mushrooms were popping up everywhere. I found this shaggy mane and watched it over a few days. It transformed to this cool drippy form before disintegrating completely.

Description: The summer of 2025 was extraordinarily wet in Calgary, Alberta. I watched this mushroom over a few days turn from this majestic fruiting body to a cool drippy stem.

Description: A cute little mushroom I found on a camping trip in Kananaskis. This orange birch bolete (Leccinum versipelle) is super common, keep a look out and you will find one.

Description: The beautiful wild rose is a treat to see in the wild. Similar to the Alberta provincial flower, the common wild rose is prolific near trails, by roadsides, and in gardens.

Description: Alpine Asters are common flowers to find hiking in Alberta, especially in Banff and Kananaskis.

Description: It is always a joy when you find a wood lily on a hike! Their stunning orange petals pierce the green of deciduous forests and the prairies.

Description: There are so many varieties of arnica, this pretty flower is modeled after an alpine arnica I found on a hike in Banff.

Description: The Paintbrush comes in so many colours and varieties, they go by many names. You can see it from the meadows to the tops of mountains. This pink version is a common sight in Banff and Kananaskis.

Description: A lovely sunset outside Revelstoke, BC, overlooking the Columbia River. This is at one of my very favourite places to camp.

Description: One of my favourite fungi to find in Kananaskis Country! Ramaria stricta (aka Upright Coral Fungus) can be found growing on fallen logs in the forest's understory. You can't miss their bright colours and large sized fruiting bodies.

Description: Yamnuska is an Albertan icon, the gateway to the Bow Valley, and it was also my first hike! Because of my history with the mountain, I was thrilled when we studied it in geology class - I had to give my sketch a new life.
