Description: In it's heyday, more than five hundred mines were dug in and around the town of Calico, California and about 30 miles of tunnels honeycombed the hills of this high desert mining town. Nowadays, only one mine is accessible via a tour, and most of the other mines have been fenced, walled or gated off from the public, marked by signs such as these. Photo taken in 2021.
