The Clouded Sulphur is a very common butterfly in Wisconsin. It can be found from early spring until late fall, and is one of the latest flying butterflies that does not hibernate overwinter as an adult. In central Wisconsin, it is common to see fields teeming with hundreds and even thousands of these butterflies.

The Cabbage White was introduced into the United States in 1860 and spread rapidly throughout the country. It is currently a very common butterfly in Wisconsin. This butterfly feeds on members of the mustard family, which includes such common garden plants as broccoli, cabbage, and turnips. This invasive species is thought to replace native species in some areas.

Nymphalis antiopa, known as the mourning cloak in North America and the Camberwell beauty in Britain, is a large butterfly native to Eurasia and North America. Other older names for this species include grand surprise and white petticoat. A powerful flier, this species is sometimes found in areas far from its usual range during migration. These butterflies have a lifespan of 11 to 12 months, one of the longest lifespans for any butterfly.

A male monarch butterfly is recognized by its thinner veining in the wings and two black spots on the hind wings that are actually pheromone glands.

Automeris io, the Io moth, is a colorful North American moth in the family Saturniidae. The Io (EYE-oh) moth ranges from the southeast corner of Manitoba and in the southern extremes of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in Canada, and in the US it is found from Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, east of those states and down to the southern end of Florida.

ubicunda, the rosy maple moth, is a small North American moth in the family Saturniidae, also known as the great silk moths. It was first described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1793. The species is known for its wooly body and pink and yellow coloration, which varies from cream or white to bright pink or yellow.[2] Males have bushier antennae than females, which allow them to sense female pheromones for mating.

This butterfly is a copycat. It mimics the appearance of the Monarch Butterfly in order to avoid predators. It is not related to Monarchs.

Junonia coenia, known as the common buckeye or buckeye, is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is found in all parts of the United States except the northwest, and is especially common in the South, the California coast, and throughout Central America.

Vanessa cardui is a well-known colourful butterfly, known as the painted lady. Like monarchs, this species also migrates, although not over the same great distance.

Vanessa atalanta, the red admiral or, previously, the red admirable is a well-characterized, medium-sized butterfly with black wings, red bands, and white spots. It is known as an unusually people-friendly butterfly, often landing on and using humans as perches.

The ‘Karner’ Melissa Blue has historically been considered a subspecies of the Melissa Blue, a western species, and is listed as federally endangered. Its host plant is Wild Lupine which usually grows in Pine Barren habitats.

The skull-like pattern and its fanciful associations with the supernatural and evil have fostered superstitious fears of Acherontia species, particularly Acherontia atropos, perhaps because it is the most widely known. The moths' sharp, mouse-like squeaking intensify the effect. Nor is this a new attitude: during the mid-19th century, entomologist Edward Newman, having earlier mentioned the mark on the thorax wrote: "However, let the cause of the noise be what it may, the effect is to produce the most superstitious feelings among the uneducated, by whom it is always regarded with feelings of awe and terror."
