Whenever I find myself unsure, I ask myself WWTD. What Would Tiye Do? Tiye was the Chief Wife of Amenhotep III, mother of Akhenaten and likely grandmother of Tutankhamun. She was an incredibly visible figure in the reign of her husband and the fact that she was often depicted the same height as him in statuary is a physical testament to her importance. She continued to play an important role during the turbulent reign of her son Akhenaten, especially in foreign diplomacy. It is speculated that the "Elder Lady" mummy belongs to Tiye.

Description

Mut is a goddess of Thebes. Her name has the same root as the Egyptian word for ‘mother’ and this reveals part of her character in that, she is one of the pharaoh’s symbolic mothers. Her iconography is predominantly a slim lady in a linen dress, often brightly coloured blue or red in a pattern suggesting feathers, wearing a head-dress in the shape of a vulture surmounted by the combined crowns of Upper and Lower Egypt. She usually holds the lily sceptre of the south. She is part of the Theban Triad with her consort Amun and child Khonsu.
