Description: Ocelots are the most beautiful cats…according to me. It’s pretty cool that there are “spots” even in America (close to the Mexican border) where you can go spotlighting and see some.

Description: The typical goat finds a high, bright, perch to survey and watch for danger. Their pupils close horizontally so they don’t sacrifice range of visual field when their pupils contract. They have panoramic vision in bright light as well as near darkness.

Description: They say Chihuahuas are “yappy” because their voice is small… but imagine how you’d see them if they were bigger. A Chihuahua has the heart of a lion. The fact that they’re little only makes them braver. Credit to Fell & Fair and Black Raven Armoury whose garments I referenced when drawing this.

Description: My Grandma, Gene, rescued a series of French Bulldogs at the end of her life & I’ve always had a special fondness for them. They’re loving, bold, steadfast companions. Credit to Black Raven Armory whose armor I referenced for this drawing.

Description: Owls have crazy eyes. They’ve got an almost barrel shaped eye to give them telescopic vision & they’ve got a little pectin comb in their eyes to filter reflected light…like internal sunglasses. Also, they have very pretty eyes, if I do say so myself.

Description: Horseshoe crabs are modern trilobites, our invertebrate ancestors. Today, these altruistic, schooling, arthropods (not crustaceans…closer to spiders) are critical to our public health. Drug development relies on testing with their blood, and we’re over-harvesting.

Description: Pit bulls are powerful, playful, energetic, protective beasts; a force that needs direction. They’re smart & driven, so they get bored home alone. But, give a pit bull a job and a routine, and you have a true ally, a partner.

Description: This one’s for my Aunt Linda & her Amazon, The General, and all the other bird ladies (gentlemen, & humans) out there. You are a varied, a many splendored, and a colorful bunch.

Description: Silverbacks have many children (& many wives). He’s twice the size of females because defending and providing for such a large family demands bulk! …mass he builds on a plant based diet ;)

Description: This is a portrait of the excruciatingly dignified, the persistently offended, the agonizingly handsome, Parson’s Chameleon. This one’s name is Errol :)

Description: Hammerhead sharks have an edge in clear water. Whereas most sharks have only 9-ish degrees of binocular vision, hammerheads have 30. Their eyes are far enough out on the ends of the ‘hammer’ that they can be angled slightly forward.

Description: A porcine cameo starring my steadfast companion, Meatball. If you’ve ever loved a pig for their fortitude, reliability, subtle sweetness, pompous objections, and soft whimpering, this one’s for you.

Description: Clownfish live in little polyamorous families. The smallest fish will be nonbinary (both male and female). As they grow, they’ll transition into males. The largest will transition again into a female; the matriarch. This is called sequential hermaphroditism.

Description: Jumping spiders are cool for a few reasons. They’ve got excellent vision in 360 degrees, and they need it. They’re active predators, stalking their prey and leaping 30 times their body length (with accuracy!) to make the kill.

Description: Solomon Islands Skinks are family lizards. A few females and typically one male live together & each year they cooperatively raise a single, extra large, exceptionally well provisioned baby. The little one stays close, learning plants to eat, for a year-ish.

Description: If you know a rat, you know they’re charming, playful, crafty little beasts. Rats give their lives in the millions to produce lifesaving medications for all of humanity. They deserve a title better than pest.

Description: Truly, one of the planet’s most beautiful snakes, the African Bush Viper is a favorite of mine. Like other arboreal snakes, they can be temperamental… and they’re venomous (not poisonous as they inject their toxin) so, not to be messed with.

Description: A female scorpion is choosy about her lovers because she knows she’s going to devote herself (alone) to mothering the brood until they venture off. It’s a big investment, so she wants a strong male so her little ones will be strong too.

Description: For everyone with a beautiful, cranky, affectionate little gargoyle running their life.

Description: This Queen wasn’t born a princess. She fought, and will keep fighting for her crown until the day she is defeated. She maintains dominance, not like a bee, she does it like a wolf.

Description: I put our cat, Louie, in a Victorian cameo frame and dressed her as Tom Branson from Downtown Abbey. Yes, I do have four cats, no I will not be taking questions! Have fun, cat weirdos!
