Description: CONSTELLATION SERIES - LIBRA The libra constellation is a relatively young, rather faint constellation on the southern celestial hemisphere. The Sumerians already saw a scale in the constellation, while the Greeks, Babylonians and Arabs counted it towards the scorpio constellation next to it. The libra constellation as we know it today came from the Romans around 100 A.D. The romans viewed Libra as the scale of Astraea, at the time still the greek goddess of justice. Later, she was conflated with the roman goddess Justitia, who is most well-known as the "blind justice" with sword and scale. My Astraea is neither fury nor flame. She doesn't carry a sword and she's not blind to what is going on around her.

Description: CONSTELLATION SERIES - SAGITTARIUS The Sagittarius constellation is one of the best known constellations and a prominent feature on the summer skies of the southern hemisphere. The ancient Greeks saw in the constellation the figure of a centaur, a creature half human, half man, drawing a bow. In some interpretations the centaur is Chiron, a centaur probably most famous for raising young Achilles, in others the centaur remains unnamed. The Babylonians, Indians and Sumerians also saw a centaur or mounted archer in the Sagittarius. My sagittarius is a female centaur, equipped with a short composit bow, taking aim to shoot at... who knows what.

Description: "Come, my heart, put on your armour" - Euripides' Medea Medea sits on the porch of her house in Corinth after killing her children, in a short moment of contemplation, waiting for the arrival of Iason and her final triumph over him. She is the Deus ex Machina in her own play. She doesn't need a god to intervene on her behalf, she is half-god herself. The Medea of Euripides is probably one of my favourite plays of all time with Medea being one of my favourite characters ever put on stage. Euripides is a master of the pyschological thriller and the portrait he paints of Medea the child-killer, Medea the witch, Medea the wronged woman, Medea the hated foreigner, is still so modern and so topical, even now almost 2500 years later.

Description: The Maenads are a group of women devotees to the Dionysus, greek god of Wine and Ecstasy. In their ecstasy of devotion they enter a new state of being, gaining supernatural abilities and strength, running through the wilderness and tearing animals and men apart equally. While their real life existence is ambigious, they are famous for appearing in plays and tales of greek and roman origin. Most famously, they appear in Euripides' play "The Bacchae" where the women of Thebes are forced into ecstatic madness by the god Dionysus which ultimately ends in them dismembering their king, Pentheus.
