Description: This artwork was created using stamps from letters sent by a former partner and describes the anguish and pain caused by the end of a relationship. There are echoes of Edward Munch's 'The Scream' in the face of the figure, and I was also influenced by the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Description: These days it seems everyone is obsessed with displays of money, with seemingly neverending social media posts of young people fanning themselves or rolling around in bundles of notes. This artwork has a collage consisting of copies of British bank notes as a background. Some of this collage has a transparent orange wash and the remainder of the painting is lilac with touches of other colours.
Description: A bold and colourful geometric abstract composition in orange and blue on a multicoloured background applied with a squeegee. Inspired by memories of my teenage years working as a lifeguard on the beach, the background is representative of the multitude of colours that are constantly shifting and blending with the movement of the holiday-makers, the geometric grid in the foreground actually representative of the background of sea and sand.
Description: Inspired by the memory of the colours in the gardens of my grandparents and parents through childhood, and now reflected in my own, 'A Walk in The Garden' is a striking geometric abstract design in bright green and red over a more organic background of muted purples. I have been reflecting on my childhood lately as I have recently discovered that I am going to be a father for the first time, and my work has been influenced by these memories and reflections. The very controlled geometric grid in red and green contrasts beautifully with the randomness of the background which was applied with the assistance of bubble wrap.
Description: 'Colour Bursts Through' is one of my more unusual paintings and the original used unusual materials and tools. The black base is household satin paint that you would ordinarily use on skirting boards and window frames etc, then this had a mix of acrylic colours poured diagonally across it while still wet. The final step was to use a hairdryer (on a cold setting) to push the paint around which gives the effect seen.
Description: This piece was inspired by the works of Bridget Riley and Carlos Cruz-Diez and was made by applying paint randomly to thick card, then shredding it using an office document shredder and then reassembling it into this design of an orange circle on a blue background. The variation of the colours through the re-combination of the shreddings adds interest and means there is always something new to see.
Description: The State of The Nation was created using a collage of newspaper articles from the time (Jan - Feb 2019) which really summed up what was important to people in the UK according to the popular press. This was overlaid with sprayed and flicked paint in a number of layers of different colours with the final addition being the screaming head!
