Baron Von Redberry 1972 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: Baron Von Redberry was a cereal that launched in 1972, featuring a World War I era German pilot, presumably modeled on “Red Baron,” Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen. The cereal itself consisted of berry-flavored oat cereal with sweet berry marshmallows and tasted strongly of fruit punch. Baron Von Redberry was the nemesis of Sir Grapefellow, mascot of Sir Grapefellow cereal. In the vein of the cereal rivalries like Quisp & Quake bickering over which one was better, Redberry would proclaim, "Baron Von Redberry is der berry goodest!" and Grapefellow would counter, "Sir Grapefellow is the grapest!" in their various TV spots and print ads.

Andrew's Air Cooled Performance 1965 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: As cars became increasingly more common, people's desire to modify them grew. And hot rodding vehicles for more power and better performance wasn't just limited to American coupes and flathead V8's. As economical imports made land in post-war America, they received the same treatment, and in the mid-'60s, Andrew's Air Cooled Performance of Bakersfield, California opened their garage doors with a goal of squeezing as much performance out of compact air-cooled engines of German origin, and from what we've heard, they were very, very good at it.

Black Hearts & Jaded Spades 1985 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: Black Hearts & Jaded Spades is the third album by English hard rock band Tokyo Blade, released in 1985. The keyboard-laden compositions of this album and the strongly down-tuned guitar sound, marks the complete detachment of the band from their new wave of British heavy metal roots. It was interpreted as an attempt to conquer the American and Japanese markets, where glam and pop metal acts dominated the charts, but instead, it was poorly received. Existing fans were confused by the drastic shift in sound, and first time listeners just found it a little strange, something the album cover should have tipped them off to.

In stores, a Rod Shop section was created as kind of a speed shop inside of a parts store. In addition to go fast goodies from all the big names, Nationwise also sold Rod Shop branded performance parts. These parts were typically embossed with NRS (Nationwise Rod Shop), making them easy to identify by collectors, even decades later. The Rod Shop partnership ended in 1987, and less than a decade later, Nationwise became insolvent, and closed all stores on Sunday, October 15, 1995 at 3:00 PM.

The Hunger 1983 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: The Hunger is a 1983 erotic horror film that is a loose adaptation of the 1981 novel of the same name. Its plot concerns a love triangle between a doctor who specializes in sleep and aging research and a vampire couple. After premiering at the Cannes, The Hunger was released in the spring of 1983. Though it received a mixed critical response, the film has accrued a cult following within the goth subculture in the years since its release. Cook’s 500 Ale 1952 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: The F.W. Cook Brewing Company was founded in 1853 by Frederick Washington Cook and Jacob Rice in what was then a cornfield just outside of downtown Evansville, Indiana. F.W. Cook brewed several beers under their Cook's brand over the years, and in the early '50s, they added their first ale. Naming it Cook’s 500 Ale after the popular race that took place every year a couple of hours north in Indianapolis, the new ale was another hit for F.W. Cook. Sadly, workers went on strike in 1955, at which point the brewery's owners ceased operations. The brewery closed its doors for good in September 1957 after selling all of the beer it had already produced, including the very last batch of Cook’s 500 Ale.

Androbot Topo 1983 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: Topo was a series of robots designed in the early '80s by Sunnyvale, California's Androbot for the consumer and education markets. It was wirelessly programmable via computer with a modified version of BASIC called TopoBASIC (and later Forth, with TopoFORTH). The program allowed the robot to perform a set of geometric movements, to move about a room and perform tasks. Topo was like a servant robot, although it didn't truly meet the requirements of a robot, as it had no sensors to receive input and then make decisions accordingly. It also couldn't communicate any information back with the computer, nor calibrate its own motors to ensure an accurate task was being performed. The robots were sold commercially starting in May 1983.

Make Tapes Not War 1983 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: A taper is a person who records musical events, often from standing microphones in the audience, for the benefit of the band's fan base. Fans would share their tapes through trade, creating a unique sub-culture where no money was exchanged, just copies of live shows swapped among fans. Taping was popularized in the late '60s and early '70s, and while bands initially attempted to thwart it, most eventually embraced tapers. While audio recording was largely tolerated, it wasn't officially allowed until the creation of a 'tapers' section' that was usually located behind the soundboard in the '80s where tapers could do their thing. Taping setups are generally portable, with condenser microphones, phantom power, a preamp, and a recording device.

Werewolves on Wheels 1971 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: Werewolves on Wheels is a 1971 American exploitation that blends two genres: the outlaw biker film and the traditional horror film. The film sees a biker gang comes across an old church, where they encounter black-robed devil worshipers. The satanists place a curse on one of the biker's girlfriends, leaving her not only possessed, but a werewolf. This transformation has dire results for the biker gang, as the possessed woman infects her boyfriend. Other than key actors in primary roles, Werewolves on Wheels used real bikers with no experience or training in acting. Much of the footage is just of them going about their lives as normal, so much of the film is regarded as an early experiment in reality as entertainment.

King of The Delta Blues 1937 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: Robert Johnson was an itinerant Delta blues singer and guitarist who lived from 1911 to 1938. He recorded 29 songs between '36 and ‘37 for the American Record Corporation, which released eleven 78rpm records on their Vocalion label during Johnson's lifetime, and one after his death. Like many bluesmen of his day, Johnson plied his craft on street corners and in juke joints, ever rambling and ever lonely, all while writing songs that romanticized that existence. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Johnson accomplished this with such an unprecedented intensity, marrying his starkly expressive vocals with a guitar mastery, that his music has endured beyond his short life.

Rocky Mountain High 1972 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: Rocky Mountain High is a 1972 folk song about the serenity found in the Rocky Mountains. The song was controversial when the FCC was permitted by a legal ruling to censor music deemed to promote drug abuse. Numerous radio stations cautiously banned it until the son'g author explained that the "high" was an innocent description of the sense of peace he found in the Rockies. Of course, that doesn't stop recreational drug users still maintaining an association with the song, one that was only reinforced when Colorado legalized marijuana in 2012. Regardless of what your high is, you can't beat experiencing the Rockies from Colorado, home to Rocky Mountain National Park as well as the range's highest peak, Mount Elbert, at 14,440 ft.

Just For Feet 1977 T-Shirt
Main Tag:

Description: Beginning with a single store at Century Plaza in Birmingham, Alabama in 1977, Just For Feet became one of the largest and fastest growing athletic chains in America. By 1999, Just For Feet had over 140 superstores in 25 states. Several features helped to distinguish Just for Feet stores from its competitors, including in-store basketball courts, walls of TVs airing sporting events, in-store appearances by professional athletes, loud rock and dance music setting the scene, and in-store snack bars. Despite things looking up for Just For Feet, a 1999 game day TV spot ended up being their undoing after the ad was decried as being racist. The sharp decline in sales helped to expose widespread accounting fraud, leading to Just For Feet's demise.
