Josephine County Commissioner Andreas Blech stirred controversy by claiming there is a “deep state” operating within the county. His remarks came without any specific context or explanation.
“A deep state is a type of governance made up of secret or unauthorized networks of power, operating independently of an organization’s political leadership in pursuit of their own goals,” Blech said during the public meeting held at the Basker Auditorium. “I know this term is often used at the national level, but I want to make it clear that there is a deep state here and it is real.”
