This restless, ravenous monster thrives on our most eccentric food desires and helps us act on our hidden cravings. The more unique, the more it enjoys it. A midnight slice of pizza, ice cream breakfast, or a curious combination of hashbrowns, peanut butter, gherkin and cream cheese. Zealops are attuned to our innermost desires and can magnify these wants into a powerful force which we cannot resist. I first encountered a Zealop at a friend’s house during her pregnancy. It was clear - judging on what she had been cooking recently - the Zealop was. When I arrived, it was an anchovy, cheese and marmite taco with pesto dipping sauce. It was... interesting
Description: The Ravellion stands as a testament to the truth that change is the only constant in life. This extraordinary creature embodies transformation itself with its very being a dance of adaptation and resilience. Its pink, pliable body can swell and morph to any shape and even sprout new limbs in response to the change it requires at any given moment. When the air turns cold, a soft down of fur emerges to wrap the Ravellion in warmth. When the skies demand flight, wings unfurl with grace. When darkness obscures vision, their eyes transform, piercing the night with radiant infrared sight.
Description: In the reflection of every mirror, every selfie screen, will be a glimpse of a Gorflug checking itself out and commenting that "this is its good side." These monsters are on a relentless quest for aesthetic approval, applause and adoration as the "Beauty Queen" of the monster realm. So much so, it has even evolved a sash as a tail. Each day is another chance at an elaborate performance and a new look to try out. They use their rubbery, liquid-like skin to morph and twist their flesh into any shape and colour. They have a psionic ability to 'read' what those around them think is beautiful and adapt to fit that person's perception of beauty.
Description: The presence of imposter syndrome following an unexpected burst of confidence often means you have come into contact with a Motivon as it glides through its puffed-up existence. This creature resembles a series of inflated balloons. Its exterior, even its exposed brain, horns and snake-headed arms, are constructed facades. It acts as a casing for its true form - a cluster of sentient hot vapor held together by sheer egomania. The Motivon exists by boasting of its accomplishments from its two serpent-like hands, proclaiming its superiority and intellect to everyone around it. It truly believes its words, for it only speaks the truth. It is the smartest thing in any room, and its version of events is always, it says, the "most correct".
Description: When the world seems too difficult, and frustration surrounds you, put yourself near a passing Flitta and let it literally eat away your worries. With its sleek, eel-like body and elegant tail, the Flitta flits through the skies like a dancer in full flight. From the front however it looks far more comedic. It has stretched eyes, an ever-flapping tongue lolling behind it and dangling legs that often cause fits of laughter as it races along. Flitta live to eat and their food of choice is the Frutz. The world is better for it as these tiny troublemakers create tension as the teem together. They are the manifestation of the feeling the world is moving too fast and that every move is blocked.
Description: Have you ever been thanked for performing a small act of kindness but have no recollection of actually performing the act? This is a commonality in all sightings of an Occulartyl. These monsters, regarded as grotesque by many, live to help others. They do so by performing small acts of kindness for others around the house. They accept no praise for doing so and relish it when thanks is instead bestowed to another. The Occulartyl was the first monster I sighted. It was hiding in an unused garden shed at the back of grandmother’s house. Despite being unused, the shed was in perfect order as the Occulartyl continued to better its living space. I followed the creature for months. It seemed just as curious of me as I was of it.
Description: You would not think it to look at one but the Vris is a master of blending in. It has a magical ability to soak in the persona of all around it and deliver a masterful performance that leaves others awestruck. Its large wings, enormous ears, and tendrils stuffed into its overflowing mouth do nothing to betray its disguise for it has several secret weapons. First, the pulsing flutter of its wings scatters glittery particles sowing confusion to those who inhale them. Second, its tendrils can mimic any sound and its lightning-quick mind is agile enough to grasp on to social cues and subtle shifts in the conversation. Its final trick is the ability to conjure a spectral mask to mimic its target just enough to fool even myself!
Description: In the folklore of nightlife and revelry, no creature shines brighter than the Wassail. These gluttonous beings thrive on excess. They populate the grandest nights of our lives - if only we could remember them. As we survey the aftermath of a big night out and find only empty bottles and remnants of devoured and struggle to comprehend how the night spiraled into chaos we often remember glimpses of the Wassail and easily dismiss them as 'pink elephants'.
Description: The Regitat's head features an eyeless void which it aims to fill with spoken secrets extracted from those around it. This monster is a master at coaxing secrets out using its powerful and mysterious, empty gaze. The Regitat often hides among collectibles, knick-knacks, and figurines and can sit so still that it is frequently mistaken for one. There it will sit in silence. Once someone enters the room, however, it will become a 'totem of truth' drawing out confessions from the trivial to the deeply, deeply personal. The moment it locks on to someone, they will find themselves spilling secrets siphoned out of them by the Regitat's influence.
Description: When daylight's brilliance fades, another light emerges to fill the darkness and inject lucent imagination into the hearts of those its path crosses. Enter Thupie, a creature whose existence is an ode to hope and forgotten passion. This bone-faced creature flits through life in delirious rapture, eternally pursuing the dreamy glow from its angler-fish-like light at the end of its forehead. It chases this with diminutive and delicate wings that defy nature's constraints. It shifts and spins in the air content to leave the rest of the world behind to chase its own dream.
Description: This peculiar creature is the DJ within our mind, obsessed with playing the same broken records over and over and over again, highlighting every scratch and imperfection. This creature spins webs endlessly to weave intricate lattices created from the doubts, worries and fears of those all around it. Rational, or irrational, every fear becomes another strand it is meticulous tapestry which becomes an elaborate trap for nearby. Brushing against one of these invisible threads causes the fear used to spin it to manifest within the mind of whomever disturbed it, like a flood of questions or a nervous checklist. "Did I turn off the stove? Is my hair unkempt? Was that comment awkward? When did I last wash my hands?
Description: The Yehayhay is a radiant spirit, gifted with an unshakeable ability to find the good in everyone and everything. While some dismiss the creature as an oddball with its strange flippers and stunted wings incapable of flight, the Yehayhay loves its many quirks. For this creature sees every detail of the world as a marvel to be experienced and, as a result, every moment is a celebration. At its heart the Yehayhay is a collector and a curator of its own personal stash of joy. It is often found admiring a piece of art, shiny object or anything that captures its desire. From the creepy to the cute it matters not. I have watched the Yehayhay clasp objects with its flippers and gaze in deep wonder its newfound treasure.

This is the conundrum at the centre of the paradoxical, ephemeral and tragic Xanpasoru who can teach us a warning about the pursuit of total individual expression. This unmistakable herald is most commonly found whenever there is an abundance of mismatched socks within a household. This portents a sign that a creature has chosen your house in its quest for uniqueness. The rotund beings, clad in a vibrant tapestry of colourful spines, represent the zenith of avant-garde individuality. They are a rare sight. No two ever mirror each other and any similarity would be abolished by the flamboyant display of artistic self-expression each one adorns themselves in to advance their uniqueness.
Description: The Skudgler is a common appearance for those who are sighted as they lurk in every household. They start off tiny, like the small tasks we put off, but will quickly grow to become troublesome presences. In a way, the Skudgler are the opposite of an Occulartyl. They grow stronger as inattention seeps into a house as small jobs pile up. Often, the first sign is soap scum on your shower door - mostly due to its habit of eating soap and cleaning products. Other signs include small build ups of mold, unemptied bins and other odd jobs that never seem to get finished. The Skudgler truly feeds on procrastination. As it grows, it will put your house into further disarray.
Description: In a shadowed retreat through time, where regret lingers like a forgotten whisper, lives the helpful, but enigmatic, creature known as the Twisterpop. These creatures intersect with humans in moments so brief but, if one is willing to listen, can make a lasting impression. Twisterpop are the embodiment of the struggles we make with our daily choices. Their presence is felt whenever sudden clarity of a past mistake is realised. Imagine, if you will, lying in bed, heart heavy with the weight of an unspoken word or missed choice when the best, and correct, way to have acted suddenly appears as if by magic.
Description: In the depths of despair, when shadows loom large and all seems to be overshadowing you, fear not for their exists a flickering candle in the form of an enigmatic creature known as the Gaushi. This remarkable creature has the uncanny ability to fill the hearts of those in turmoil with inexplicable optimism, and a hint of good luck, by being able to siphon away dark energy and negative emotions filtering them free of their 'prey'. If you ever wondered how a whimsical grin crossed your face when things seemed dark all around, or perhaps a sudden windfall, chances are it is the influence of the Gaushi at play. Helping you while helping itself its symbiotic relationship with humans in strife.
Description: Can someone truly be that toxic or are they festooned with swarms of the minuscule marauder that is the Mehcupod. These creatures float throughout the air, typically inside poorly ventilated office spaces, whispering malevolence wherever they go. When someone saunters into a room and it feels like the weather suddenly changed, or a predatory presence is slinking in the shadows it is likely the sinister influence of the Mehcupods feasting on a victim. The Mehcupod is the master of emotional alchemy. In lies in wait to gorge on negative emotions. Their beady little eyes are honed to detect auras marked by unease, anger, frustration and stress and they launch themselves at their target detectable by a slight skittering in the air.
Description: Born from toxic tongues of the discontented the troubled creature known as the Krareen thrives in a festering pit of malice, exclusion and bitterness. It's main goal in life is to seek revenge on the betrayal that birthed it. They can spawn from a malicious school-yard rumour, a slight on a family member or, most-commonly, a cutting remark of a work colleague or friend without justification. Each unfounded disparagement, each bile-ridden backbitten comment summons forth these grotesque amalgamations of fury and trepidation.
Description: The pure-hearted and good-natured Vestorat skirts the delicate line between hilarity and calamity. This whimsical creature lives to laugh—literally. Its entire existence is set about enjoying life and allowing others to enjoy it through humour. Even to view the Vestorat, hard to do due to its minuscule size, is to cause fits of laughter. Its toothy grin, elongated tongue and puffed-out eyes make it glimmer with mischief and its small wings flutter with the sound of stifled giggles as it travels looking for fun and frivolity. Completing the look is its elongated horn resembling a jester's cap and this creature is a jester throughout.
Description: The old wives' tale that lying causes bumps to appear on your tongue may ring truer than you think when you consider the curious creature that is the Sicogue. While it appears cute with its striking mohawk and stumpy legs, the Sicogue embodies the saying that "the Devil is on your shoulder". This is quite literal; the creature will hop onto the shoulders of those near it to hitch a ride and will do whatever it can to stay there. Mostly this involves the host making up excuses, half truths or other perfectly reasonable lies - to themselves and to others - not to go to events, hang with friends, or take a course of action that could risk discovery of the Sicogue and cause it to lose its ride.
Description: The Purtle represents a new step in monster evolution, possibly stemming from a lab-based experiment or the signal of an unexpected twist in the evolution of monsters. Recently, monster-seekers increasingly report sightings of monsters adopting technology, but the Purtle stands out as the first to mesh mechanical parts with organic. The Purtle exists to experience art in all its forms, often wandering slowly through art galleries and studio spaces or connecting its body to the internet to explore art at high bandwidth speeds.
Description: Perhaps the most benevolent Monsters yet recorded, the Yessim is born with an innate urge to help everyone and everything around it. Their forever-open hearts instantly run to the aid of all who need it, and even those they suspect need it, and the Yessim will throw itself into assisting with complete abandon. Every task they take on is met with unwavering zeal, until, inevitably, they hear another voice beckoning them away with another opportunity to serve. Their devotion is so profound that each promise for helps causes a 'helper frond' to blossom from their posterior, which the Yessim uses to multitask and divide its efforts amongst all who need aid.
