Description: With much less detail, this is a gravestone replica of Michelangelo's "The Pietà". Here sits Mary holding her son Jesus who has just died on the Cross. I have many emotions when viewing and pondering this image. As a mother myself, my heart breaks for Mary as she had to watch her first born endure a most horrific and undeserving death. However, I have even deeper emotions knowing that this is how my Lord and Savior sacrificed himself for me; for all of us, so that we may be with Him one day. This is True Love. John 3:16, John 15:13 Location: Saint Adalbert Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleums, 6800 North Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, Illinois 60174 (West side of North Newark Avenue)
Description: Location: Cave of the Mounds, Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, U.S.A. "Cave of the Mounds takes its name from the Blue Mounds, two large hills which have long been Wisconsin landmark features. The West Mound, at 1716 feet, is the highest point in Southern Wisconsin; the East Mound reaches 1489 feet. Cave of the Mounds lies under the southern slope of the East Mound. Cave of the Mounds was accidentally discovered on August 4, 1939. Workers, who were removing high quality limestone from a quarry on the Brigham Farm, blasted into the Cave. The blast tore the face off the quarry and revealed a great underground cavern. All quarrying stopped and never resumed. The dynamite blast revealed a limestone cave more than twenty feet high opening into ...
Description: Although the Bahá'í faith is not my own, I can still appreciate amazing architecture and beauty when I see it. This building is an amazing cement structure and in person, will leave you awestruck. "One of only eight Bahá'í temples in the world at present, 2018. The House of Worship in Wilmette was dedicated in 1953 after more than 30 years of construction. French-Canadian architect Louis Bourgeois labored for eight years to arrive at an appropriate design for such a lofty purpose. Transforming Bourgeois' drawings - some requiring 109-foot long sheet of paper - into durable ornamentation resulted in an innovative process of casting concrete panels composed of quartz crystal and white cement to form the temple's intricate, lacy exteri...
Description: Oriental Theatre - 24 W. Randolph St. Chicago, IL 60603 "As one of the first motion picture palaces whose décor was inspired by the Far East, Chicago’s Oriental Theatre opened to much fanfare on May 8, 1926. Designed by George L. and Cornelius W. Rapp for theatre managers Balaban and Katz, the theatre, a virtual museum of Asian art, presented popular first-run motion pictures, complemented by lavish stage shows. Turbaned ushers led patrons from the lobby, with polychrome figures and large mosaics of an Indian prince and princess, through an inner foyer with elephant-throne chairs and multicolored glazed Buddhas, to the auditorium’s 'hasheesh-dream décor.' Among the many stars that played the theatre are Paul Ash (billed as “the Rajah of ...
