A shot using long exposure photography to emphasise the very fast white water flow of the Conwy River flowing through the town of Betws Y Coed, where some nice conifer trees have grown quite nicely... With so much rain, the rocks are very slippy at this time of year.

CONWY RIVER IN FULL SPATE
I stood from the clifftop whilst the light was good and composed this image, using full frame and vintage pentax 35mm glass. Had to anchor down the tripod. Think I just about got away without too much camera shake! Edited in photos, then lightroom.

PORTH SAINT BEACH
Standing from the cliff, with my tripod anchored down, I used a 7 second exposure, approx, to control the light, and allow for some movement in the waves, the rest was done in lightroom and possibly some photoshop...

ST. GWENFAEN'S PILLAR
An ancient woodland, sees elderly silver birch trees, matured. This simple setting of trees on established patch of land, caught my eye. Not thinking much about Christmas, working in post it had that accent of tones which made me reminisce of the old christmas cards that we often used to see... and so I set to, to make a photographic similar... all its missing is the glitter! Edited in photos and then lightroom. Shot using Sony A7 with Carl Zeiss Pancolor f/1.8

LET IT SNOW
Decided on a monochrome to accentuate the contrasting rushing white water with the granular rough shaped rocks, silky and sheeny, wet from fresh torrential downpours in the ravine of Betws Y Coed. Full frame with vintage pentax glass, polariser and using long exposure.

SILVER BIRCH IN THE MIST
Shooting with vintage glass on full frame Sony, using vintage grad filters, I composed this image of one of the most frequently shot to death locations in Snowdonia. Having said that, the conditions and lighting was just perfect, and magically, the swans did their 'seven swans are swimming' dance for me this morning ~ composed just beautifully... but I think I can count 8

SUNRISE & SWANS - LLYN PADARN
Shot using vintage 1960's vintage glass, so forgive the lack of pristine nature and developed using lightroom and photoshop adding filtration and using masks to accentuate the Snowdonia mountains in the background. Hopefully, a somewhat different composition to the 'norm' this wintertime of Mount Snowdon. This is the church where Lord Snowdon is buried and there are pirate gravestones!

SNOWDONIA FROM ST. BAGLAN'S
Something from a distance compositionally caught my eye, shooting with a vintage telephoto piece of glass at 135mm mounted on a full frame camera, I took this shot. Some adjustments have been made in post but overall the image is evenly balanced. Thought I'd add to portfolio, as there's something there, but I can't put my finger on it...

TREES IN THE MIDST
*Leather corals* are somewhat photosynthetic corals and so they are supported by internal algae creating food for them, but they also extract nutrients directly from the water column and so in areas where 'high current flow occurs' - can exist at greater depth. With 'just a kiss of light' they can exist and are often quite pronounced supporting a microcosm of life...

A KISS OF LIGHT
I'd been noticing just how colourful and attractive the outlines of silver birch trees were on the terrain below by the lake and thought that I'd like a rustic capture of the tree line above, caught in mist clinging to the hilly surrounds... A patchwork of tree colour revealed itself nicely through vintage glass. Slight adjustment in post processing teased out the texture and colour of this panoramic setting of silver birches.

MOTTLED MAUVE OF SILVER BIRCH
Perfect conditions allowed me to capture a still calm lake, waterscape colours of autumn turned winter, with a misty backdrop. I worked in post using lightroom just to remove distractions to the eye... nothing much else.

LLYN DINAS WATERSCAPE

CANOISTS ON MYMBYR LAKE
We are all dependent upon life for our survival and if we keep on trashing our own backyard - then don't be expecting Governments to come along and pick up all the pieces... Once NATURE is truly BROKEN - We can't fix it ! A few species of stink bugs do not feed on plants. They are predators of insects that attack plants such as the greenfly... So next time you are out and about in the park or in the woods - just spend a moment to think about the nature and wildlife that works to provide you with -fresher, healthier fruit and vegetables, your food and the water bugs which help provide you with clean water. If nature could talk... these bugs and other insects - might say... Don't LEAF the LITTER to US ! Take your TRASH with Y...

WE HAVE NINE LIVES!
Wanted to give this representation some movement although these little critters are quite static. Spending time out in the field is giving me more awareness of how things work. Bit by bit I'm piecing things together which might have been elemental or rather fundamental at University level ~ but consolidates much better whilst out and about... I stumbled upon this rather large caterpillar... of which I've not seen the likes of anything bigger on my travels! Upon the stem of Willow-herb this caterpillar is harmless and eats its fill until it goes to ground and pupates over winter - to produce the beautiful Elephant Hawk Moth in spring. Moths are not just critters which make holes in your clothes... In fact, moths do more good than a...

HERB LIFE
A long and arduous afternoon of photography found me in the middle of the river up to my ankles in low water and stumbling across grey herons coming home and to roost in the trees... A distinct shaft of light broke through the clouds and illuminated this "grey, somewhat blue even purple, heron" Now I have looked in all my bird books and this looks to me that it is indeed a young purple heron growing into maturity - Ardea purpurea I am delighted as such! As for quite some time, I have been photographing grey herons, with the thought and instinct that a few of them looked distinctly purple and less grey... the defining difference is their difference in size... the purple being smaller and also the black bands which develop across the...

KING POWER
It's no coincidence that these lens flares occur - it is a matter of precisely controlling parameters to create such a subject matter... Granted some lenses produce much more stark - even brilliant lens flare, yet - it is still a matter of controlling the amount of light entering the lens and angle of incidence in particular... This image I have called "The Soviet Star" although the sun doesn't belong to the Russians... the lens which created such rainbow colours was and is now mine!!! :D I believe it is the parameters of the lens and the multi-coating which creates such characteristics - accentuated in post ~ of course! :P Sony A7

A FLUTTER ON GRASS
This summer I have been spending quite some time in the company of beautiful demoiselles... Sounds exotic and delightful... and it was! I spent time getting to know the habits, habitat and rituals of these superbly stunning - british insects! After almost a week of observations it seems strange to say so but there seemed to be some other level of acceptance between us and the male damselfly shown here seemed to allow me to closely film him and he seemed to perform for the camera... quite possibly seeing his own reflection in the lens before him...? It was a shame to see their habitat in not much more than the time to drink a cup of coffee... be cut down to virtually zero... Is it any wonder we're having problems with biodiv...

GIVE ME GREENERY ANYDAY!
The evocative and hypnotic whistle sound of the curlew... seemingly is an ever decreasing sounds along our UK coastal shores... but we do have them here along our shores near Caernarfon and at the nearby local reserve... they are just - not seen in abundance and are very tricky to spot..! Their scarcity and rarity is becoming more of a heightened crisis... The pressure for their decline besides that of such perilous migration journeys is that of 'habitat loss and degradation of coastal wetlands' which they depend upon to roost and feed across their non-breeding range. So this piece is a conservation awareness piece... suggesting that : "if we are not careful these graceful, iconic coastal species along with other waders and coastal...

LOSING CURLEW... ?
Well what a heck of a day its been... So maybe take time to relax and absorb a touch of nature..? Rest your eyes on this relaxing image... they do say that the colour green is meant to be calming... forget about capital growth and business and politics for a while and connect with nature whilst in the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle - even if it is from behind a computer screen or ipad - it can be beneficial... I found this capture particularly appealing for its superbly natural colour... :-) Another vintage lens that renders colour naturally and quite well. Enjoy!

CAPITAL GROWTH
I decided to create this as such to express levels of negligence and irresponsibility that is occurring - most likely right across the board - within UK and quite possibly further afield globally ~ due to our disregard and disrespect for and to - 'all plants necessary for their nectar producing or pollen producing capability' and in doing so 'provision for lepidoptera' (butterflies) and many other insects also. Not least this dandelion, which here in UK is considered to be 'a nuisance weed' - and as such is treated very poorly... either removed by hand or chemically destroyed. Actually dandelions are a herb and have medicinal properties... If we continue to treat such weeds, which are useful flowers - with such malice... How ar...

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
A completely natural shot of a courting pair of beautiful demoiselles. The superbly coloured azure green male flies towards the golden coloured female ~ gently touching her to evoke a flirty response. This image was taken using vintage Carl Zeiss glass and shot using manual mode and manual focus to the best of my abilities ~ so the image is much 'softer and smoother with a wonderfully natural colour rendition' ~ that you most often don't see ~ when shooting with modern optics... The shot became the priority above - the accuracy of focus and so composition and natural behaviour was the requirement...

I FLY TO YOU
As much as many don't like flies - they are an essential part to the ecosystem of life and without them the World would not exist and function as it does do... All animals are fascinating and have a nervous network and some cognitive capacity... So if you can avoid swotting to kill them if possible by allowing them out of the window then do so... Sometimes it is unavoidable and for health reasons they should be kept out of food preparation areas... but they are quite interesting - except when they bite! Was bitten twice by horsefly last week! :-/ Luckily not all flies bite! :D

FLY IN THE OINTMENT
Abstract depiction of Fireweed (Fireweed earned its name because the plant is the 'first to colonise' in soil after forest fires. It has a very high dispersal capacity... In the old land of our seeds ~ 'hen wlad fy hadau' ~ that is Wales... We must try to ensure that - 'seed dispersal remains that of non - genetically modified seed and crops'.

Wanted to capture something that iconically represented British Summer fruits and fruition... and what better than the luscious seasonal british blackberry!?? With so much politically going on at the moment - taking stock of what we can do and can grow in our British climate... might not be too bad an idea... Market Gardeners have been doing as such for centuries... so why not add another fruit plant or fruit tree to your garden... and take a step forwards with resilience for food sustainability..? Of note it is rather concerning that when doing a search for latin genus or species name of 'blackberry' - the first thing that comes up in google search is that of the Company "Blackberry"... Maybe, just maybe that is where its all goi...

SEASONALITY
In my now 12 years as a Wildlife Photographer, I have had many interactions with nature... often weird and wonderful, sometimes underwater, sometimes not. I never thought I would get such special interactions with insects, in fact, I am not such a fan... but I do like and love - the dragonflies and damselflies of this World! When one gets such intimate interactions with nature - you feel spiritually connected, revived and invigorated! Such precious times are often scarce and infrequent... and so somehow they must be cherished... This was one such time - when I spent considerable time getting to know and learn the trust of the beautiful demoiselle. Physically and chemically we treat all insects species with so much disdain....
