It pays to carry a camera everywhere. Recently I was at a function on the 35th floor of the Sofitel Hotel in Collins St, Melbourne, Australia, and I was amazed at the architectural details of the ceiling structure. Yes, another photo of the famous tree in Lake Wanaka on the South Island of New Zealand. It could probably lay claim to the most photographed tree in the world and it is now difficult to take photos without a horde of sightseers and photographers getting in the way. This spider has remained in the same position in our garden for several days. I am amazed at the intricate pattern on it. It's a beautiful example of the power of evolution. There are numerous waterfalls along the Wanaka to Mt Aspiring Road in new Zealand South Island. They are mostly narrow ribbon falls, some only appear after heavy rain. Lake Hanlon is very recent, being formed as a result of the 1929 Murchison Earthquake. It is about 20 km south of Karamea on the upper west coast of New Zealand South Island. Hooker Valley in New Zealand South Island is between Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Cook Village. The trail along the valley is one of the most spectacular places on earth and on this winter's day, it was brilliant sunshine. I converted the original colour to B&W as it gives a far more dramatic effect. Using a red filter darkens the sky and I changed it to be completely black.
