This one is on Frida Kahlo, best known for her self-portraits, her work has been celebrated in Mexico as emblematic of national and indigenous tradition and by feminists for its uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form.
Description: Chhinnamasta is one of the Mahavidyas, ten Tantric goddesses and a ferocious aspect of Devi, the Hindu Divine Mother. She is described as being as red as the hibiscus flower or as bright as a million suns. Chhinnamasta signifies that life, death and sex are interdependent. Chhinnamasta's image conveys the eternal truth that "life feeds on death, is nourished by death, necessitates death, and that the ultimate destiny of sex is to perpetuate more life, which in turn will decay and die in order to feed more life".
Description: I grew up in India and was first drawn towards Black History through the music and Art. Over the years, I've learned about the struggles and resistance of African American people. I wanted to celebrate Black History Month by creating an artwork that is aesthetically beautiful and also captures some key elements from Black Culture and History.
