Historical re-enactment in the town of Taggia which recalls the raids of the Saracens when they traveled the Ligurian coasts with ships to plunder, burn and destroy the villages. Taking away women and children and everything they found.
Legend has it that one day San Benedetto, seeing the Saracen ships, suggested to the Taggesi to light bonfires to make the Saracens believe that within the walls of the town it had already been plundered and burned by other predators.
According to legend, the trick worked. At the sight of all those fires, the thick smoke, the screams and the gunshots rising from behind the walls, the Saracens did not disembark and changed course, looking for new villages in nearby France.
