Description: Gorgoneion within a circle, which has been incised in the moist clay and left red. Around this twenty-eight spiral-form snakes are drawn, half facing each way. The Gorgon has two protruding tusks above and below, and protruding tongue; the hair is in black silhouette, with the lower edge waved, and she wears circular earrings. The black of the hair is continued all round, forming a frame for the face.

Description: Antefix in the form of a Gorgon head reassembled from two fragments. It was found southwest of the Parthenon in 1835. Medusa's face is dominated by her big eyes, the wrinkled forehead and the tusks and tongue protruding from her wide mouth. Her apotropaic features were emphasised with colour as traces of black and red paint show. She wears circular earrings on her ears and has snakes around the neck.
