Surrounded by snow and icy temperatures I returned to an old favourite which always cheers me up at this time of year - tulips! I took a series of photographs of these pink tulips, this is the second painting I've done from them. Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico extra white cold pressed paper, with a mixture of paints including W&N, Daler Rowney, M Graham and Daniel Smith. The original work is approximately 12 x 10 inches.

Oriental poppies are so wonderful to paint, they're a gift to watercolourists like me! This large painting was started on saturated paper, allowing the pigments to merge freely until the paper was almost dry, and then final details added. Delicate allium flowers with a bee - the latin name of this flower is Nectaroscordum Bulgaricum, also known as Sicilian honey garlic! I'm still trying to get a feel for agapanthus for the Solo Exhibition masterpiece workshop. This was started with a watercolour wash, then gesso was added in one flower shape before I painted a second flower and washed over the gesso with more watercolour. I'm enjoying the effect. Inspired by 60s 70s Christmas decorations, which were definitely maximalist, with every colour of bauble and tinsel together on one tree! It's time to revive the pure joy of those decorations, no more tastefully curated schemes!
