Description: First Place Winner! "The Q Collection" The JKO Reservoir covers 106 acres (43 ha) and holds over 1,000,000,000 US gallons (3,800,000 m3) of water. Though no longer used to distribute New York City's water supply, it provides water for the Pool and the Harlem Meer. It is a popular place of interest; there is a 1.58-mile (2.54 km) jogging track around it and it is also encircled by the park's bridle trail. The Reservoir was built between 1858 and 1862, to the design for Central Park of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, who designed its two pump-houses of Manhattan schist with granite facings. It was never a collecting reservoir; it was used to receive water from the Croton Aqueduct and distribute it to Manhattan. After 131 years...
Description: Central Park is a public park at the center of Manhattan in New York City. The park initially opened in 1857, on 778 acres (315 ha) of city-owned land (it is 840 acres today). In 1858, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux won a design competition to improve and expand the park with a plan they entitled the Greensward Plan. Construction began the same year, continued during the American Civil War, and was completed in 1873. Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962, the park is currently managed by the Central Park Conservancy under contract with the city government. The Conservancy is a non-profit organization that contributes 83.5% of Central Park's $37.5 milli...
Description: This is a composite using a 1933 Ford coupe hot rod I photographed at a local car show a few years ago. Like many pictures taken at these events, there were quite a number of unwanted distractions. I tried a number of creative strategies to isolate it, but with no success. One afternoon I was messing around with a Fractal generator and it produced the weird design that looked like a tear or an opening. The idea kind of blossomed from there. I wanted it to look like it's jumping into "something". I tried various ideas, planets, fire, stars, a giant eye, but decided to leave it sort of vague as to what's on the other side. That way the viewer could fill in the missing pieces on their own. Overall, the composition came out better th...
