Description: When I was kid the defiant was the very first Airfix model had and at some point after that I build a Bristol Blenheim Mk 4. I knew nothing about planes than but since I have been luck enough to spend a fair amount of time around the newly restored Mk1 at Duxford. It had a rough time during the war and when you see it up close it looks obsolete by late WW2 standards. Slow and poorly defended it look much more at home at an airshow that on a bombing run. Still a very beautiful aircraft all the same.
Description: The Great Wave Off Kanagawa is an artwork that has seeped into the public eye so much so that it even has an emoji. The original image is a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It was published sometime between 1829 and 1833. Today its image and its style crops up all over the art world. Given that the sea is featured so prominently in this image I wanted to show how much an image like this is suffering under the pressure of the modern world and if the scene took place today it could well be swimming in plastic pollution. I’ve created this design to raise awareness and contribute to fighting the causes and supporting the solutions to the horrendous problem of plastic pollution
Description: To go with my ww2 RAF pilot I've created a dogs of war Luftwaffe pilot. I've used the emblems of the German air force during WW2 and pictured a dog that resembles the Doberman Pinscher that is a breed of dog developed in the late 1800s in Germany. Next up will be an American P51 'driver'
Description: The Hawker Typhoon in its day was one of the fastest planes in the air. When the Spitfires couldn't keep up, these were sent out. This plane bares the familiar invasion stripes that were originally applied pre-invasion to Typhoons to ensure they were not mistaken for FW190s as they had a similar profile.
Description: The Dogs of Wars are out racing across the country side in the M18 Hellcat. An American made light Tank with a powerful gun that was capable of the tank equivalent of the drive by shooting. This was the fastest tank on the block and Its speed was its best defense as it didn’t have the armour to take return fire from its heavier German opponents. Shoot then run, that was the way of this ambush predator.
Description: This Dogs of War illustration features the Russian KV2. It was a massive tank in its day. A huge 152mm howitzer was mounted in a battle ship style turret. It was slow, top heavy and cumbersome but almost impervious to attack. These dogs appear to run down a locals bicycle. They must have not been looking where they were going!
Description: In 1973 Rosenhan and his pals conducted a number of psychological experiments to determine the validity of diagnosis of mental patients. They sent participants to various mental hospitals who all complained of the same symptoms, (hearing voices). None of them were actually insane but all were diagnosed with schizophrenia. All were admitted and made to take anti-psychotic drugs. They then behaved normally and said they no longer had symptoms. There were released but were charged with continuing to take medication and were diagnosed with their condition in remission. Description: The Churchill tank was Great Britain's entry level heavy tank at the beginning of WW2. it was designed before the war and draws heavily on what was learned about tank warfare during WW1. Think Armour, flat sides and high tracks that could cross trenches was the doctrine at the time and so such the Churchill suffered from having no angled faces capable of deflecting enemy fire. Even so it was a good vehicle and performed admirably for its crews.
Description: The Russian made T34 was one of the best, most rugged and practical tanks of ww2. This fighting vehicle was innovative and easy to mass produce. Although not the best tank of the war, in great numbers it was an effective weapon and one of the best fielded by the Soviet Union. This one is crewed by those pesky dogs of war and is an up-gunned version of the original T34 design. The T34/85
Description: part 2 of my dogs of war illustrations. This time it's a Sherman tank with a crew full of fuzzy hounds. The Sherman was a medium tank manufactured in America and fielded by the allies in WW2. This version is a firefly which is a British modification sporting a different turret and a 17 pounder gun that was more capable of knocking out a heavy German tank like the Tiger than the standard Sherman armourment.
