This was supposed to be a quick practice/study with digital airbrushes, with ref from a photo, but I immersed myself in it, so it quickly turned into an actual full-blown painting lol. [Recycled an old background for this to make things a bit easier lol]
Tbh, it turned out better than my usual 'hard-brush-then-blending-tool' method. The soft edge of the digital airbrush makes for a smoother transition from light to dark (and vice versa).
Done on my phone in about 6 hours total.

Original Gowan photo circa 1987 by Dimo Safari (if my memory serves me right lol)
"The Jig Is Up, The News Is Out..."
A little something inspired by an ink drawing I did of Tommy Shaw about a year ago.
(Which was also inspired by the song Renegade)
Wanted to get the feel of an "old-timey" wanted poster for the background/backdrop, and also with the 'punch-y' feel of a comic book cover.
Drawn on paper first, then lined and finished on my phone in about 6 hours (over the past few days).

SUPERSTYX LEAGUE - ISSUE 1
#fakecover for the SSL! I needed to get back into drawing these guys eventually lol, and felt that a fake cover would be the proper practice.
(Decided not to add lettering as it would make the piece way more crowded than it already is lmao)
Done completely on my phone in Autodesk SketchBook; ~16 hours total over the past few days.

Inspired by the Californian/Miami-type sunset logos I've seen scrolling the 'net and on a few retro-themed tumblrs I follow.
Done completely on my phone in about 5 hours total

Original Strange Animal concepts (c) Gowan 1985 - ∞
#gowan #strangeanimal #digitalart
Referenced this one from a black and white Gowan photo from cir. 1985 (I think?), and decided to colorize it and put my own stylization to it.
This was also kind of an experiment on doing one layer in greyscale for values, making it the "overlay" layer, then doing blocked-in colours for the colourizing layer underneath.
Done in about 5 hours total in Autodesk SketchBook (on my phone)
Art (c) Illia St. Onge 2018
A speedpainting of the spaceship seen orbiting the moon in Gowan's music video for his hit song "Cosmetics" from 1985.
Painted on my phone in about an hour.

WolfCop vs. Organo, "Strange Animal" style!
Inspired by Gowan's single cover for (You're A) Strange Animal from 1985.
Done completely on my phone in the AutoDesk Sketchbook app, in about 10 hours total over the past few days.

I've been in a bit of a synthwave/retro vibe lately (again lol) and doodled this up initially during downtime at work, then scanned it/took a pic of it and finished it on my phone.
Pose partially inspired by The Fonz, and partially from a pic taken of Lawrence at a gala a couple years back.
Done in about 8 hours total (double that if you count the art app crashing and having to re-start almost at square one with the colouring/painting *whew*)
(I may also now have to do the rest of the Styx in this style lol and possibly one for myself lmaol)
Art (c) Illia St. Onge 2018
Decided to create a graphic based on hand-painted shirts I made myself(and a friend) a couple years back.
Based on the lyrics from Gowan's song (You're A) Strange Animal
Done on my phone in Autodesk SketchBook in about half an hour.
Art (c) Illia St. Onge 2018
A bit of a play off of the song and music video for "All The Lovers In The World" by Gowan (inspired by a podcast where he describes how the song came about)
Done on my phone in AutoDesk Sketchbook.

Was in a bit of a synthwave/80s retro vibe when I made this lol
Decided to whip up a quick graphic design of my villain character Professor Kilroy - whose design is based on the 'Robotos' in the music video for Styx's "Mr. Roboto" and felt the end line in the song - "I'M KILROY!" - suited the drawing best for this.
Done completely on my phone in AutoDesk Sketchbook in about 3 hours.

(Inspiration by Styx)
**PS** this has been posted with interesting timing - Styx just started playing the song Mr. Roboto live (without just a backing track) for the first time since its release in 1983!!!
Made a mock movie poster for SuperShaw, because... practice... and I was also sparked(hah!) to do it because of the hype around the recent Avengers movie.
Done in Autodesk sketchbook between my laptop and phone in about 12 hours total. (The clouds and lightning took the most amount of time)

Now you can wear or tote Captain Fender(JY)'s superhero emblem to your next Styx show! Or show your friends how much you love your favourite SuperStygian by having a sticker or travel mug!

Digital art piece inspired by the band Platinum Blonde
Done originally in 2016, I've finally uploaded it here for you all to enjoy.
Did this originally as an inktober doodle from that year, and decided to "upgrade" it in digital form for funsies (minus the Platinum Blonde logo - I decided the eye triangle logo on it's own here looked pretty badass. I might upload the emblem version soon)
Art (c) Illia St. Onge
Designed myself a Gowan tattoo and decided it would also make a neato graphic design!
Mixed media (traditional and digital tools) done in about an hour

I present to you: THE SUPERSTYX PETS! (Well, the ones I've come up with so far anyway lol)
L-R: Ricky Phillips's cat, Sushi, as Bass-Sushi; Lawrence Gowan's pup, Tango, as Bat-Tango; and Tommy Shaw's pup, Peanut, as Super-Peanut!
Drawn first in my sketchbook, then finished on my phone in Autodesk Sketchbook. Approx 8 hours total.

"The Strange Animal reaches for his lone weapon in desperation to regain his freedom from being captured by the Canadian Hunters, before being shipped off to a Lab in central Toronto - the hub of our Canadian Civilization..."
[The following is an excerpt from Styx's The Mission album liner notes, penned by Mike Mettler]
"The Khedive crew has settled in for the requisite long nap that will enable them to endure the long-distance ride as they cruise towards Mars on autopilot. However, all contact from Earth has been lost. When they finally arrive at their destination, they are floating in auto-orbit above the Red Planet.
Some anomaly has caused only The Pilot's pod to open, and 'Locomotive' wakes up to find everyone else still in hibernation. The radios have also gone silent. The Pilot's dilemma: either bypass the devices and force the crew to awaken and risk their well-being in the process, or take the landing module down to the surface to assess the sit...
Adding to my thread of SuperStyx League emblems with this next one: Bass Lantern! (Chuck Panozzo)
Done completely on my phone in Autodesk SketchBook in about an hour

**PS - I just realized I made this on Bass Lantern himself, Chuck Panozzo's, birthday! What timing! Lol. Happy Birthday, sir, if you see this!
