Description: The Snow Leopard lives in the mountains of Central Asia. Snow leopards prefer the broken terrain of cliffs, rocky outcrops, and ravines. This type of habitat provides good cover and clear views to help them find prey, and sneak up on it. There are only about 3,920 and 6,390 snow leopards left in the wild. They are threatened by Poaching of the cats as well as their main prey animals, limiting their resources. This has been pushing them to prey on livestock and has caused more conflict between the beautiful cats and the local people.
Description: the Virginia Opossum (or Possum) is a nocturnal marsupial who (most adorably) carries their offspring on their back :) Opossums are responsible for limiting the spread of Lyme Disease, as they tend to kill off most disease carrying ticks! They also are resistant to rabies (possibly because of lower body temperatures than most placental mammals)
Description: Whale sharks spend around 7.5 hours per day feeding on sergestid shrimps and fish eggs as well as krill, jellies, copepods, coral spawn, and small fishes! A whale shark filters food from the water by “cross-flow filtration,” which means the particles do not catch on the filter. Rather, water is directed away through the gills while particles carry on towards the back of the mouth
Description: The goblin shark differs from other shark species by having a flattened snout that protrudes from the top of its head. Its jaw is protruding, and the inside contains 35 to 53 rows of upper teeth and 31 to 62 rows of lower teeth! Sightings of goblin sharks are very rare and indicate that the species lives in waters on continental platforms and slopes, at depths of 1,300-1,370 meters.
Description: Like most eagle species, the female “harpy” is almost twice as large as the male. he larger females tend to take sloths and monkeys; the smaller, more agile and faster males tend to take more quantities of smaller food items. This increases the pair’s odds of eating on a regular basis.
