Taken a long time ago (we're talking so long I can't quite remember!) on a trip to Scotland. It was by train so before I drove... must be around 30 years ago. Taken on my old Paulette Electric II film camera. The trains in those days had windows in the compartments (yes, they still had compartments... told you it was a long time ago) so as I was awake with the dawn I stood on a seat, stuck my head out of the window and took just one shot... this is it! I guessed the exposure as the metering was somewhat primitive.. can't remember what it was now. I only took one for several reasons... it was film and in those days you took fewer shots to make them count and I nearly hit my head on a passing pylon! I was also afraid the guard or con...

Taken at Bolton Castle, in its grounds. Bolton Castle is a spectacular mediaeval fortress, preserved in outstanding condition and situated in the heart of Wensleydale, inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Completed in 1399, its scars bear testament to over 600 years of history, including being besieged during the Civil War in 1645 and Mary, Queen of Scots’ imprisonment in 1569. The castle was built by Sir Richard Le Scrope, Lord Chancellor of England and 1st Lord Scrope of Bolton. It has never been sold and remains in the private ownership of Lord Bolton, Sir Richard le Scrope’s direct descendant.

Hethersett Church is near Norwich, Norfolk, East Anglia. Todays church dates from the fourteenth century with fifteenth-century additions. It is built of flints and local field stones with Caen stone dressings and the roof is of lead and slate. The tower, built in four stages, supports a lead dressed steeple which is topped by a weathervane depicting a dove perched upon a coiled serpent and holding in its beak, loves-lies-bleeding. Chequered flushwork of dressed stone and flints around the plinth and buttress facings

I saw these two young people gingerly making their way across the edge of an outdoor swimming pool in Clevedon, near Bristol (UK). They were so engrossed in what they were doing that they didn't look around once. I liked the way in which their reflection is blurred due to the wind disturbing the water but just enough not to completely obscure it. Taken at maximum zoom on my Fuji 602z bridge-type camera.

A typical view in the Yorkshire Dales, one of England's finest national parks. I decided to make this a sepia one as I think monochrome makes it easier to focus on the tonal qualities and subject matter, as well as the composition of the image, in a way that colour doesn't. Taken on the road from Aysgarth to Burnsall, near Kettlewell, if I remember correctly.

The castle of Cardiff rises in the center of the modern Capital of Wales. Its main particularity is that in no other building of Great Britain cohabits therefore many architectonic styles of various ages. The construction is the combination of a Roman fort, a classic Norman fortress " Motte-and-Bailey " and of the gothic-Victorian restoration operated in the half of the nineteenth century. Cardiff Castle is one of Wales’ leading heritage attractions and a site of international significance. Located at the heart of the capital, within beautiful parklands, the Castle’s walls and fairytale towers conceal 2,000 years of history. The Roman fort at Cardiff was probably established at the end of the 50s AD, on a strategic site that afforded...

Taken in the north west of Scotland on a road trip. The sky was suddenly very dramatic and I just had to stop and take this photo. Moments later the scene had changed and the shot was no longer there for the taking. I travelled on this stretch of road for hours and saw only one other car and not a solitary person. A very bleak and lonely landscape, but very beautiful nevertheless.

I have given my Flatford Mill image the vintage camera treatment in Photoshop CC using Nik Filter Pack. Three ducks in a row on the River Stour at Flatford Mill, Suffolk, East Anglia, England. Flatford lies in the heart of the beautiful Dedham Vale. This charming hamlet was the inspiration for some of John Constable’s most famous pictures, for example, the Hay Wain or Boatbuilding near Flatford Mill among many others. Wandering beside the River Stour or looking at Flatford Mill and Willy Lotts House you can feel as if you are actually walking through one of his paintings.

The church of St James in Clapham was founded in Norman times, and originally dedicated to St Michael. It is mentioned in records dating back to 1160. The village and church were burned during a Scottish raid following the Battle of Bannockburn in the early 14th century. The church tower was probably erected following this incident, but the rest of the church dates from the 19th century. In the 14th century John de Clapham, who took his surname from the village, was a supporter of the Earl of Warwick and lived at Clapdale Castle.[1] His descendants took part in the Wars of the Roses[2] on the side of the House of Lancaster Since the 18th century Clapham has been home to the Farrer family who established their Ingleborough estate. Taken on a recent visit to Lancaster, Although I was born and lived until my early 20's in Lancashire, I never went to Lancaster until now (I'm in my 50's). Lots of interesting streets to walk down and this is an example. It is situated on the River Lune and has a population of 45,952. Long existing as a commercial, cultural and educational centre, Lancaster is the settlement that gives Lancashire its name. Lancaster has several unique ties to the British monarchy; the House of Lancaster was a branch of the English royal family, whilst the Duchy of Lancaster holds large estates on behalf of Elizabeth II, who herself is also the Duke of Lancaster. Lancaster was granted city status in 1937 for its "long association with the crown" and b...

View of Ingleborough and Ribblesdale Viaduct in Yorkshire Dales. Ingleborough is the second highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales. It is one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, the other two being Whernside and Pen-y-ghent. Ingleborough is frequently climbed as part of the Three Peaks Challenge, which is a 24-mile (38-km) circular challenge walk starting and finishing in Horton in Ribblesdale. If done anti-clockwise Ingleborough is the last hill climbed, and ascent is from Chapel-le-Dale.

Taken last summer, Tuscany, Italy whilst walking near Castiglion Fibbochi. Not sure what berries they are. I solarised a layer in Photoshop CS6 and then changed its layer mode to Subtract, changing opacity to 75% to tone back the effect. This enriched the tones, restored highlights and deepened shadow areas, as well as boosting contrast and saturation.

Situated on land formerly part of Gosbecks Farm, the Archaeological Park is recognised as one of the most significant Iron-Age and Roman sites in the country. Excavations in the fields surrounding the farm (probably named after the 13th century land owner, Rodger de Gosebek) began n the 19th century with the discovery of a Roman temple by an amateur archaeologist, the Revernd Henry Jenkins. However the true scale of the site wasn't known until archaeologists examined aerial photographs of the area in the 1930's. Once the focus of the extensive pre-Roman settlement of Camulodunum (present day Colchester) and the royal seat of a succession of native Kings, Gosbecks Archaeological Park offers today's visitor a mix of outstanding Archa...
