Designed by John Shayne and Robert Hopstein, published in the United States, public domain, via PPPA. John Shayne (1901-1977) was born Jacob Sheinfine in Ukraine. He was raised in the United States and moved to New York in the 1920s. He worked as a graphic artist, type designer, and painter. The poster was conceived and sketched by Robert Hopstein and painted (gouache on paper) by John Shayne. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.

Franz Krausz (1905-1998) was one of Israel’s most accomplished poster artists. Austrian-born, he made Aliyah to Tel Aviv in 1934. He created hand-painted gouache posters characterized by vivid colors and bold typography. This poster was part of a broad effort to promote Aliyah (immigration) and agrarian settlement during the British Mandate. The woman embodies nurturing and the pioneering spirit. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
