Description: This is a reduction linocut drawn, carved, and printed by me, and finished in March 2017. There are 26 different ink colors in this print. The title refers to Frida Kahlo, who often included monkeys in her paintings. You can check out and buy the original print at my website: www.unascott.com All my work is copyright protected, 2017.
Description: Chameleon Egg hatched out of my brain and into a linocut. The original is hand carved into linoleum blocks, one block for each color. Then I print them on my etching press. I hope you enjoy this reptile get-together, and please visit my website at www.unascott.com to see my original prints.
Description: "For Awhile My Hands Were Gone" is an original linocut print handmade by me, Una Scott. I drew the image, carved it onto 4 linoleum blocks and printed each block by hand on my etching press. I had a weird strep infection reaction this spring that completely immobilized and swelled up both hands for a couple months. It was so bad, I didn't know if I'd be able to make art anymore. Finally the doctors figured out what I had, and told me that I'd recover completely in a few months. I knew I had to make a piece of art about the experience. Here it is, an adorable lamb runs off with both my hands, probably inwardly giggling!
Description: An albino deer pauses and sniffs the night air in a moonlit forest clearing. But wait- that's not the moon, it's a UFO! This is a handcarved, handprinted linocut I made. Each color in the print is a separate block I carved and then ran through my press in succession, layering the ink colors. Check out my website to buy the original. It's up to you to decide if the deer is an alien scouting for a new colony or is in danger of being subjected to alien examination in the UFO lab.
Description: "Radiated men will eat the flesh of radiated men," is a line from Charles Bukowski's poem "Dinosauria, We." His apocalyptic vision of earth inspired me to create this linocut print. I handcarved 3 linoleum blocks, one for the green men, one for the orange-red bomb and one for the blue tones. Then I rolled ink onto the blocks and printed them successively onto paper on my home etching press.
Description: Fighting Cats is an original linocut print I made. It is a 13 color reduction print that I carved and printed by hand on my etching press. It depicts 2 cats fighting on top of a collaged background of fashion magazine photos. Check out my website: unascott.com to purchase the original print.
Description: Created for a friend with a Groundhog Day birthday. The original artwork is a linocut comprised of several different colored blocks. The idea is based on the face cards in a deck of playing cards, and signifies the changing of the seasons. The blue night sky half symbolizes autumn, with the constellation Orion overhead and the groundhog holds ripe wheat stalks. The green half symbolizes spring and the groundhog holds a dandelion gone to seed. Across the groundhogs' belly are the phases of the moon.
Description: Virgo is a woodcut print I carved and inked on my etching press. Virgo is usually sweet and kind, but there's a little bit of meanness in her too. That's the coiled snake that lives wrapped around her heart. You can purchase the actual woodcut print at my website www.unascott.com
Description: Are you nuts? It's dough. It's fried, frosted, and sprinkled. Heck, I don't even like to eat them, but they sit for their portrait so well. The original is a multiple block linoprint, hand carved, inked and run through my press by me. And I did share the real donuts with friends.
Description: Night Blossoms is a desert mirage, a nocturnal fantasy inspired by the beautiful Big Bend region of Texas. Mysterious agave flowers curl open revealing hungry snakes. I carved the large wood block and printed it by hand on an etching press. See the original print at unascott.com
